Digimon thread

Anyone who can't see the terrible work the dubbers did is one of the following:

1) Blind to it, or
2) Younger, so it would go over your head.

#2 is actually the case for me. Looking at its original Japanese glory, and comparing it to the huge nuraber of idiotic jokes and characterizations, I have to wonder, "how was THIS ever considered the way to dub anime?"

...of course, this was dubbed back in the days when Japanese culture was something that wouldn't make sense to those out here, so it's to be expected. XD

If you are referring to the first series it was already kind of done in the first Digimon movie but the entire first story in movies? I think it's fine as is and just a new series would have more of a welcoming than that.

For what it's worth, an original story was done in the X-Evolution movie.

Neither one of those,Even with the Jokes, the plot is the same, I seen the Japanese version, The Spanish dub version(The most accurate dub uncut.) and the English version. I seen the three versions at the same time(Can't tell you how without breaking the rules.) and it's almost the same cool, cheesy show we love to enjoy. There were instances where the dub made it better or some instances where it would be difficult to explain.(Like the song games in the Kabuterimon episode, the episode where Patamon runs away into the city and they meet up in the dog statue.)

Of course I admit sometimes the jokes were horrendous, but the dub didn't stray away that much from the original.

Mod Edit: There is no need for a condescending tone. Insulting other's views will not be tolerated. Anymore back and forth and this thread is closed.

Well, you can ignore 02's ending, stop watching before they show, and make up your own ending. The Royal Knights on the other hand was not just repetitive but also necessary to advance the plot of Frontier.

Due to the news of the new Digimon series, I decided to go back watch Adventure. You know, aside from the edits, character alterations, and jokes, the dub was actually good for its time. If there was a uncut redub, I would be all for the voice cast to reprise their roles. ***SIGH*** Except for Tai, damnit Joshua Seth why did you have to retire in 2005? You could've been somebody!

Digimon is a pretty silly show, conceptually, in any language, so "original japanese glory" may be a slight overstatement. That being said, I do believe the original version is superior to the dubbed version, for every season except Tamers. Same reason as everyone else; over americanization, stupid attempts to appeal to kiRAB with lame jokes, etc.... I don't even think the VA's are that good, either.

I do agree on the silly lines and dialogues, but you know, I consider it the lesser of two evils. Considering the dubbers could have done a lot worse that many children's Anime go through in America, I always though Digimon was better handled then many. They acknowledged they were in Japan instead of some made up American city, they kept the death scenes, they delivered and played the tragic and emotional scenes straight, and even kept what could have been the controversial transformation sequences starting from Digimon Tamers, and so forth.

For what it's worth, I thought the dubbers handled much of the series pretty durn well.

The only way I'd want Digimon on DVD is if Funimation redubbed and released uncut and bilingual sets. I'd buy those things in a heartbeat.

He retired, eh? I remeraber reading that it was "for reasons unknown" that he didn't reprise the role...now I know.

And yeah, it would be nice to see it dubbed by today's standarRAB. Which is to say, doesn't cover up all kanji and completely rewrite the characters' personalities.
