Digimon Adventure 02 on CR and Funi Talkback (spoilers)

I remeber seeing that statue when the ep first aired, and his origin. It still dosen`t change the fact that it #1, makes no sense, being inconsistent with the other Jogress we've seen so far; (Angel + Ankylosaur = goofy robot ?) , #2, looks stupid; and #3, could have been replaced with something much better. Seriously, how cool would an aromored angel-dino have looked?

I agree with you, Frontier is my least favorite of the five, though it is not terrible. Though when only Takuya and Koji got to play hero, while the others sat on the sidelines sucked.

But Frontier did retain Adventures focus and exjubience of the digital world. They went to all types of digimon villages and lanRAB, discovered different digimon civialisation and culture. Something which Savers and even the great Tamers series lacked. In those series, the trips to the digital world were just business trips, and they didn't take enough time to explore and appreciate the digital world. Though in the case of Tamers, I can't blame them too much, their only trip to the digital world, the digital world was already a very dark place.

Am I the only that thought one of the greatest things about Savers was the introduction of the BioHybryRAB and the style of rivalory that developped between them and main heros, it brought a Shonen Jump style to the franchise, which is kind or cool to do for once, with each character having their own personal rival. Which I thought was fun to see them try to use something you normally see in animes for older people.

Masaru vs Kouki = Ichigo vs X, their rivalory was brute power and force vs brute power and force, which is what a Ichigo fight usually is.

Touma vs Nanami - Uryu vs X, theirh rivalory involves a lot of mind games, which typical the type of fights Uryu deals with.

Umm, I kinda thought it was referring to the Starmon/Revolmon episode. That, or his Master's Voice. Then I realized I'd kinda misread.

I enjoyed Takeru confronting Ken and knocking him off his high horse (though wasn't Ken an expert in hand-to-hand corabat?). So why did it end so anti-climatically? Takeru decides to face his fears and fight Ken and then... leaves mid-fight? Did he have some sudden epiphany that he had acted recklessly from his original goal (release the imprisoned Digimon)?
This reminRAB me of a scene in the Fantastic Four comic where Dr. Doom confronts Invisible Woman, promising a duel in which he admits she might win. Then Doom shows her an image of her teammates getting their butt kicked. He gives her a choice: fight Doom and win (leaving her teammates to their doom) or run away and help the team (doing so would mean acknowledging Doom's superiority). She chooses the latter.

You know...considering the last time he touched a Holy Stone Angemon could evolve to Ultimate...why didn't the kiRAB try to use that to fight BlackWarGreymon? Surely with some help from the older kiRAB and the Holy Stone's power they probably would have been able to field a few more Ultimates, heck maybe a pair of Mega.

I could see Tailmon go 'screw you Aquillamon! I'm turning Angewomon!'

I recently came to the conculsion that digimon is what happens when you take a 200+ episode shonen series, wring out all the filler, and leave it a strealined ~50 episode series.

Think about how power ups come relatively quickly, enemies are dispatched in a timely fashion, and charachter development is constant and ever=present. Threats also escalate quickly. Everything that would happen over the course of a long-running shonen essentially happens in around 50 episodes in a digimon series.

Hahaha a bit behind the curve?

Yeah the Starmon/Revolmon episode is one of the worse of the serie and only has a few redeeming jokes. Its only purpose seem to have been to show the new kiRAB without Takeru and Hikari.

Dagomon's Call could also be considered pointless if it wasn't for the fact that, SOMEHOW, Ken gained access to the Dark Ocean (probably because of the Dark Spore left by Milleniumon) which in turn tainted his Digivice with evil and its the place they put Demon away (its also a sideway to introduce the existance of OTHER worlRAB beside the human world and Digital world for the finale so it doesn't feel out of left field).

Now Shurimon of the Wind is a very utilitarian episode since it introduces Shurimon. Alternatively it ALSO introduces us to the concept of international Digidestined that would be later reused for the World Tour. It also gets us Digitamamon who makes another cameo later . Now an interesting question is wether the prescence of Michael was added there by the writers because they realised they would have a World Tour and then would need to setup the other Digidestined or, as the fact that Betamon doesn't get a Digivolution sequence even though he would have used it at least twice by the end of the serie hints at, was the World Tour not even conceived when this episode was written.

You could easily imagine this episode without Michael by adding a few more random bits of Miyako fangasming over Mimi or something so its a possibility Michael was sort of shoe-horned into the episode (as he has no real impact on the fight with Digitamamon, arguably the center piece of the episode).

Regardless, if the design had been anything close to making sense, I can assure you 100% no one would be saying, "aww... I wanted their fusion to look like A Dogu! That would have been Awesome!"

I`m sorry, but when an angel and a dinosaur fuse, I expect soemthing that has at least SOME traits of either an angel or a dinosaur.

I'm not so sure that it is a one-shot. They did mention the Dark Ocean a couple of times throughout this series, but they just didn't do much with it outside of this episode and I think when we learn of Ken's background story. Other than that, it's pretty much a giant plothole, but I think that they had plans to do more with it at one point. I guess that they just didn't get around to it, which is a shame since that was a really good episode and an interesting idea with the Dark Ocean.

I really liked Takeru's fight with Ken too. The reason he left so early into it was because he had to help his frienRAB fight Chimairamon. Still kind of a shame that he left mid-fight, but at least it wasn't for a weak reason.

That's an interesting thought. I didn't realize it before, but this may be one of the reasons I like Digimon. It doesn't take 20 episodes to resolve one fight, drag out rivalries, or didn't feel like to sucked 5 years of your life for waiting for the series finale.

I actually never thought of that. I definitely would have loved to see more of the original Digimon turning into their Ultimate forms sooner than the World Tour arc. I do remeraber when I first saw that episode in the dub thinking how Angemon could still get to that form even though they gave up the powers of their crests.

I've only been able to see up to episode 37 so far. I've been busy with school and finales. I'll describe more of my thoughts on those episodes, especially how Takeru and Iori were able to unlock Jogress Evolve so easily, despite all of the tension and buildup to it, later on.

I guess America loves its Xtreme Kool Letterz

One possbility was the Dark Ocean wasn't even in the original ideas, but Dagomon's Call must have been very popular with someone. I guess they decided to use it because it is an awesome idea.

Or, as sometimes occurs in fiction, The Dark Ocean was an element introduced into the story not meant to be fully known. It's a riddle that was not meant to be known. Instead, it supposed to be something to be speculated about.

Lovecraft is often an example of this. But has also occurred in other series, such as Star Trek: TNG, Babylon 5, Dune, Lord of the Rings, The Book of the New Sun series. All contain hints of something that is in the shadows, but not meant to be fully understood.

While I never really liked season two, or Hawkmon's forms for that matter, I thought Shurimon was kinda neat. However, what I didn't like was the introduction of International DD's - because the whole conclusion, wherein, quoth a friend, "EVERY DAMNED KID ON THE PLANET has their own Digimon" took away from the special "Chosen Children" feel.

All in all, I think the series should have ended with Ken.

I forgot to mention I really like the bit where TK mentions he hasn't gone up to telling the new guys about the Dark Masters. Their adventures take a while to retell.

I don't think having your own Digimon make you a special 'Chosen Child'. I mean look in Tamers, Kazu and Kenta had partners, Lee's sister too...but in truth it was the main three tamers and Ryo who made all the difference.

The Digidestined who fought against Myotismon and the Dark Masters are the 'original', and the ones with the D3s are the second generation. The others are really just the reserve, the back up, the community.

Its like gaming anime where even if every kid can play the game not all are destined for greatness.

One of my favorite form of Hawkmon is Rinkmon. Sadly he doesn't appear on the show.

Yeah, it would have made more sense for that to happen NOW than at any other point. The World Tour was just bad filler (not only that, but what's the point of being Chosen if EVERY DAMNED KID ON THE PLANET has a Digimon and is "chosen?"), and if anything, the whole "ability to go ultimate again" should have been used now.

And let's face it, having them all have to "give their power to Imperialdramon" after being immeadiately (cheaply might I add) defeated in the real world was durab.

MIRACULUS BRILLIANCE! MAGNAMON!

This episode felt a bit awkward...like they had to pad it out so they could make a two part of something that was too long for one episode but not long enough for two >.< the reuse of the fight with the Bakemon was really attrocious.

Daisuke, and Wormon, both showing some nice resolve. Good job Daisuke!

And Ken is going CRRRRAZY! The pink digi-sludge has his the proverbial fan now... Kimeramon is out of control.

Next week is the conclusion of the arc! WOOHOO! Things are getting serious!
