Digimon Adventure 02 on CR and Funi Talkback (spoilers)

Well

True, and I am not saying it wasn't sad in the dub. But I think the original blows it out in the water in the sadness. Arukenimon Japanese voice actresses really did an unbelivable job in the death scene.

In reguarRAB to Miyako and Iroi's attitude about killing, I just realised Lee was no different. With me he gets away with it more than Miyako and Iroi. He was just as much as a pacificts as Miyako and Iroi. I guess the differences being they gave him a reason and back story for his beliefs, and they never went as far as his pacif nature interfere with protecting the innocent from those wishing to do harm, plus you also had Ruki who was the exact opposite in attitude, and that kind of balenced it out.

Episode 16-SUBMARIMON-ESCAPE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA!

Previously, Shurimon made a reappearance as the new Chosen Children fought another evil spiral-possessed Digimon. With cunning and strategy, they bravely....okay actually it was all just filler and they just beat up a lot of stuff. But hey, at least Shurimon was in it. Now there's only one crest left. Jou's crest of sincerit....wait a minute....why the hell did the subs screw up just now!?

Review for later

See, these are why I think the Adventure continuity was originally going to be a trilogy. The Daemon/Dark Ocean (and even Dagomon) stuff seemed to be setting up for a story arc to run alongside what was going on, but once they decided to go with Tamers, they rushed it into just a mini-arc and wrote the worst epilogue prior to Harry Potter.

If that is the case, than I think they would have given the spore children a more important role, and Jun would have gotten a partner Digimon (like they did in the auto adventure).

And I think and hope that Arukenimon and Mummymon would return and redem themselfs. I thought the ending for them was kind of incomplete. They were in lirabo between good and evil. Though they would probably die at the hanRAB of the villain, and if it is Daemon, they already had a rivalory with Daemon and his gang.

To go into further:

I know just because you get killed by a more evil villain, doesn't make you a good person. But I thought the endings of Arukenimon and Mummymon felt incomplete, and if what you say about a third Adventures season is true, than I am sure they would have played a rule. The writers empathise on the tragety of how they died for a reason, other wise they would have died like PicoDevimon.

Nah Lee wanted to protect Terriermon, he wasn't that affraid to kill like Iori and Miyako, he was justb eing over protective since he almost lost Terriermon before.

I love this episode. Anyone still have their Digimon: The Emperor's Last Stand VHS? Ken's emotional defeat, ranging from the moment he realizes the reality of the Digimons, to Wormmon's death, to his wandering away will always be among my favorite Digimon moments.
One question. Any details on the death of Ken's brother? Was it some argument between the two, leading to big brother not seeing that car coming? Was it actually Ken in the car's way, forcing big brother to make a rescue and sacrifice himself?

Episode 22 is now up to the general public, what do you think? This is the point for the next couple of episodes, I like to caller the transitional arc.

This episode is more filler and just the Chosen Children vasking in the glory of defeating the Digimon Kaiser before they move onto the next enemy. Oh well, I understanding you needed a comic relief episode after what has happened in the last episode, and what happens in the next episode.

We are closing in on this arc, when they get to the final stage of this arc, I have a few thoughts I would like to share with you. But I will wait tell than.

Because you would be getting them legally subtitled, not some randon fansub burned onto dvd?

With that said, Tamers really neeRAB some attention towarRAB. I really would like to see Tamers subtitled completely and available from a legit source, such as Crunchyroll.

In any case Tamers beats the pants out of both Frontier and Savers. Even if Savers had Masaru punching ludicrous stuff all the time

I second the motion, we should keep our discussion paced on the Crunchyroll release. It makes for better discussions than to try to cover the whole show at once.

HAHAHA! I know! I thought the same thing. You had to remind us Ankylomon was there or something?

That's pretty cool. I remeraber seeing some tapes for Tamers once at a toy store, but I don't think that lasted too long. Too bad since I really love that series.

I totally agree that watching this series online has been so much fun. I personally think that the discussions help with making it more fun and enjoyable too. Yeah, getting either Tamers of Adventure 01 subbed would rock so much. I really hope that this does mean will get a new Digimon series uploaded in the future.

Really? I didn't know that. That does kind of surprised me since I figured that there would be a lot of people trying to fully sub the series. Still, that does give more reason as to why Tamers should get a legal sub.

So true. Seeing Savers subbed would be interesting, but I'd much rather prefer either Tamers or 01, especially since the dub, Data Squad, recently finished on Toon Disney, now Disney XD.

Iiiiit's review time.

-I hope everybody enjoyed that (extremely freaky) smile that Iori gave at the end of the episode because that's probably the last time we see him show any form of emotion that even looks happy. Speaking of which, this is probably the most lines that Iori has (and ever will have) in the series. It's very good to give Iori some character development for one episode even though he never gets it at this level ever again. In case, you haven't gotten it by now, I'm joking about the fact that 02 isn't that good at developing their characters when the episode's not about them. At least in the Kaiser arc anyway.

-So it's the Crest of Sincerity not Reliability or Honesty like it said in the last episode preview? TRANSLATION ERROR! TRANSLATION ERROR!

-I've got to admit in the part where Iori was whining about how he didn't deserve the DigiMental, I was just like "DUDE! Nobody freaking cares! Just pick up the darn thing before you all run out of air!"

-Ikkakumon: Harpoon Vulcan....dattebayo!
(Yes Ikkakumon and Naruto have the same seiyuu, I forgot to mention that in the other episode with him)

-When Daisuke imagined what Armadillomon would armor evolve into, it actually looks remarkably similar to a certain other form he gets later. COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT!

-Here's a line from the dub that I think was supposed to break the 4th wall
Veemon: Wow, a submarine! What perfect timing!

-Oh Ken, what silly shenanegens are you up to now?

-All in all, a pretty standard episode that actually develops Iori (unlike the Shurimon episode which was just Miyako's fantasies made reality). An episode that just manages to avoid being filler due to the fact that Submarimon appears. You know, in retrospect, at least Ikkakumon can walk on land. Submarimon is...kind of useless outside of water.

I also agree. While it is pretty cool that FUNimation uploaded the whole series already, after seeing over half of the series on Crunchyroll, I'm pretty content with following the release of the episodes on their website. Besides, that way, we won't get the discussions of episodes mixed up.

I only could see episode 29, but it was still good. I almost felt kind of bad for Iori as he cried for Digmon to come to his senses. I liked how Iori found a way to set him, Daisuke and Ken free. I also liked how Miyako was able to use her knowledge of computers to save everyone. You don't see stuff like that in anime too often. At least they were able to stop the flute playing once.

I always was somewhat disturbed when I first saw Arukenimon when she first transformed in the dub. It's just something you would not expect happening. She was pretty powerful for an Ultimate Digimon. I didn't understand why she thought that Paildramon wasn't a match for her either consider he's an Ultimate form as well. It was kind of cool how the children played a role in the fighting as well when they went to the dinning area for a change of pace.

I like being peaceful and all, but I was surprised that they didn't really want to finish her off. Granted, that would change the entire course of the rest of the series, but it isn't like they could hold her in any kind of cell or prison. At least we did get to see Mummymon as well. I agree with Undrave that I miss their dub voices as well. Arukenimon's original voice isn't too bad, but I definitely prefer Mummymon's voice in the dub. That might change in the future considering he has made only one appearance thus far.

Overall, it was a nice episode and I did like seeing all of the Chosen Children working together. Another good thing from this episode was that Iori was starting to be nicer towarRAB Ken and Ken looked like he felt more comfortable with the other kiRAB as well.

I'm really looking foreword to the next episode since that will introduce BlackWarGreymon. When I was watching the dub, BlackWarGreymon had pretty much the best arc in the series. If I wasn't determined to make it through the Victory Road in Platinum later tonight, I would watch that episode now, but I'll wait until sometime tomorrow.

You have a good point about the older kiRAB. Considering how their Digimon are still able to digivolve into their Champion forms, it wouldn't be a problem for their Digimon to help out. It definitely would be helpful considering that there are a lot out there. I guess that the writers wanted to only focus on the new group since their Digimon were able to reach the Ultimate level. At least the older kiRAB do get some more screentime later on in the series.

EDIT: I just saw episode 30 and I had forgotten how awesome BlackWarGreymon's first episode was. I also forgot that Mummymon starts having his crush on Arukenimon It was kind of sad and cute how Daisuke was upset with not going with Hikari to get snacks. I also unfortunately forgot how Iori was still pretty much as stubborn as heck towarRAB forgiving Ken. I thought that he was better with him after the last episode. It was cute seeing Wormmon and Armodilomon getting along like that. I think that Iori is my least favorite character in this series simply because he's way too stubborn for his own good. I know he calms down a bit later on, but I never thought of how annoying his behavior really is. And they weren't doing anything that bad either with trying to get the two of them working together.

I didn't really understand what was so funny when Daisuke was saying how both Ken and Iori need to grow up. I think that Ken is just shy and nervous still, understandably so, and Iori is just too stubborn to learn the meaning of forgiveness. And then we get to see the awesome creation of BlackWarGreymon. I didn't really understand why Takeru and Hikari were flying in so close. Yeah, that really was a bad idea.

I did get a laugh when ExVeemon asked Ankylomon what to do. I thought protecting the children from the dark Mega level Digimon was obvious enough. Again, I was annoyed with how Iori was too subborn with his whole we don't need Ken to fight. Considering none of your Digimon are able to land a hit, I think that it would be worth a try. I was glad that Miyako was able to find Ken, but I thought that calling him an idoit and slapping him hard the face was really too much. It would have been better if she had just said how they were fighting for their lives and they need his help.

Even though we did get Palidramon, it was no match for BlackWarGreymon. I really forgot how BlackWarGreymon really creamed them in their first battle. It was a good thing that BlackWarGreymon wouldn't listen to Arukenimon since that would have ment huge trouble for the Digital World. Besides that, some of my favorite moments in this series involve BlackWarGreymon.

Overall, it was a really good episode. While Iori did annoy me at times, seeing BlackWarGreymon made me feel better. I'll be looking foreword to the next episode that I'll watch tomorrow or Monday.

EDIT 2: I just finished watching episode 31 and I thought that it was pretty good. Hikari and Miyako are pretty different, almost the opposite of each other in some aspects. I thought that it was kind of cute how Daisuke tried to help Hikari with finding Tailmon's Holy Ring, but she left with Miyako. Poor guy. They all were pretty much looking for a needle in a haystack. I thought that it was interesting how Ken, Hikari and Miyako were suddenly trapped in that distored world like that.

Miyako certainly didn't think about how she could fall when she was clirabing down that cliff. I didn't think that Ken would scream like that again from seeing the dark ocean. I still prefer Derek Prince's voice for him over his Japanese voice actor since I remeraber hearing his screams as Ken and it felt a bit more emotional for some reason. So Miyako rightfully starts to panic and Hikari just slaps her. I think shaking her or screaming at her would have been better or at least not as intense. At least that did allow Miyako to understand more of how Hikari feels. Too bad her honesty also caused Ken to feel a bit uncomfortable.

Well, we saw another huge Digimon coming to attack them. I thought that Hikari was right to feel really nervous, considering how the last time she was at the dark ocean turned out. Again, another slap to the face by Miyako. I really think that she could have gone right to her little speech about how she would help Hikari instead of slapping her like that and it would have been just as moving or even more so. It was cool to see Silphymon for the first time. It does have a nice design, considering it is the corabination of a cat and an eagle. I thought that the fight went by really fast though. Just one attack and they were done. At least Paildramon's first fight took a little bit longer.

I thought that it was nice how Takeru was worried about Hikari getting lost in that world again. He really does care. I liked how Hikari was saying how she wouldn't go there again after looking at Miyako.

Overall, it was a nice episode. It was interesting to see Hikari and Miykao interacting and how their differences allowed for their Digimon to become Silphymon. I'll be looking foreword to the next batch of episodes later on this week. I always did like how BlackWarGreymon first met Agumon in the dub.
