Digimon Adventure 02 on CR and Funi Talkback (spoilers)

Well

True, and I am not saying it wasn't sad in the dub. But I think the original blows it out in the water in the sadness. Arukenimon Japanese voice actresses really did an unbelivable job in the death scene.

In reguarRAB to Miyako and Iroi's attitude about killing, I just realised Lee was no different. With me he gets away with it more than Miyako and Iroi. He was just as much as a pacificts as Miyako and Iroi. I guess the differences being they gave him a reason and back story for his beliefs, and they never went as far as his pacif nature interfere with protecting the innocent from those wishing to do harm, plus you also had Ruki who was the exact opposite in attitude, and that kind of balenced it out.

See, these are why I think the Adventure continuity was originally going to be a trilogy. The Daemon/Dark Ocean (and even Dagomon) stuff seemed to be setting up for a story arc to run alongside what was going on, but once they decided to go with Tamers, they rushed it into just a mini-arc and wrote the worst epilogue prior to Harry Potter.

If that is the case, than I think they would have given the spore children a more important role, and Jun would have gotten a partner Digimon (like they did in the auto adventure).

And I think and hope that Arukenimon and Mummymon would return and redem themselfs. I thought the ending for them was kind of incomplete. They were in lirabo between good and evil. Though they would probably die at the hanRAB of the villain, and if it is Daemon, they already had a rivalory with Daemon and his gang.

To go into further:

I know just because you get killed by a more evil villain, doesn't make you a good person. But I thought the endings of Arukenimon and Mummymon felt incomplete, and if what you say about a third Adventures season is true, than I am sure they would have played a rule. The writers empathise on the tragety of how they died for a reason, other wise they would have died like PicoDevimon.

EPISODE 13: "Dragomon's Cry"

Previously: Some really stupid stuff happened that did nothing to advance the plot and the only real good thing about it was Sora's tennis outfit. Moving right along....

EDIT:
Forgot to put the review

Ah, yes, the beginning of the Dark Ocean. A part of the story that really should have been an arc or back-story by itself but for some reason Toei decided to abandon somewhere down the line. In any case, I was sooooo happy to hear this in the original format. The voice acting was spot-on. You could feel the emotion and the despair that Hikari was going through. And finally, Tailmon gets some real lines. Oh yeah, YAY! ANGEWOMON! ANGEWOMON! ANGEWOMON! (with the original evolution music too. yay)

And wow, remeraber how I said that I think the dub just added lines just to make the shipping even worse? Yeah, this was another one of those episodes. Takeru's "I care about you too much to let something happen to you, Kari" line was apparently, not there as well as Kari's response that she cares about him too. CONICIDENCE!? I THINK NOT!

Oh yeah, sure, possible mass-impregnation of a little girl by foreign creatures. That's not weird at all Toei.

This was a really great episode. The sound of dripping and flowing water has never sounded creepier to me. Some of the background music also increased the already creepy atmosphere of the episode. I thought that the scenes where Hikari was starting to disappear were really intense. I really felt so bad for Hikari since she sounded so frightened and sad throughout a good portion of the episode. Even though Takeru and Hikari's lines about caring about each other in the dub were added, I still think that it was a kind of cute moment. It was really awesome to see Tailmon evolve into Angewomon and hear the classic evolution music to boot.

Although, I'm confused on something. If the original eight children had to give up the powers of their Crests, then how could have Tailmon reach the Ultimate level. I often wondered about that when I got far enough in the dub. Since the Dark Ocean world isn't really a part of the Digital World, at least not like the usual one, perhaps that didn't apply here. That or Toei didn't write out the part about giving up their crests yet.

Anyway, it was definitely a great episode and it should have become more of an arc itself or developed a bit more throughout the series. Oh well. And yes, the idea of a group of monsters trying to make Hikari their bride to take down their god is extremely creepy. Not to mention one of the oddest things I've heard in an anime in a good long time. Still, I'll be happy to see the next episode.

Oh yeah I was glad to see it uncut! Its really a different experience. Far creepier and more confusing. Dagomon, the god of the deep, silently emerging from the sea as this GINORMOUS dark form (which looks nothing more but a trace of its TCG card image BTW ) was pretty creepy...though the shot at the beginings felt superfluous and just one at the end would have been surprising and schocking enough if you ask me.

Also we could have used an explanation for that vision of young Hikari and Taichi.

The Darkness that calls out to the Light!

I was pretty happy to hear 'Holy Light', Hikari's theme song, in the background when she started to help the Hangyomon/Deep Ones. And the music when Airdramon showed up was pretty cool.

Tailmon kicked butt in that episode if you asked me! Both as herself in her daring meet up with Pegasusmon and as Angewomon. I still love her voice a lot and Break Up fitted pretty well once more. Man Angewomon sure didn't make much case of deleting Airdramon huh? Not that he bothered not destroying those Hangyomon (which I'm fairly certain I recall the dub not showing).

Call me crazy but I think the more subdued shipping hints in this episode felt a lot more genuine and cute than the forced stuff we got out of the dub.

As for Tailmon evolving without the crest... I think its really just Hikari's innate Light power that's somewhat a different power from her crest.

BTW Light Lucario, congrats on the mod status!

Yeah, it was definitely creepy. While seeing Dagomon twice was still pretty scary, I agree that seeing it only at the end would have been a more powerful way to end the episode.

Yeah, I was kind of confused on that. Of course, I haven't seen Adventure 01 for quite some time.

I agree. I thought that I saw some subdued hits on their feelings throughout the episode, which was pretty cute.

That makes sense. Hikari was able to break the evil spirals with her own Light power so that could have caused Tailmon to evolve, along with the intense situation.

Thank you. I really appreciate your kind congratulations.

I think they added in some lines in the dub to make it more of a Takeru / Hikari ship, because Japanese are better at getting suttlty. That is my guess.

Anyway I also wish they went back to this storyline. Maybe if they did a third Adventures season.

Speaking of the dub, I was watching the dubs of all of the series recently, which character had the worst dub voice?

The one character that really breaks my heart and really angers me is Ranamon. One of my favorite characters from Frontier, and those stupid dub writers just runied it. She was perfect the way she was. I can understand why they had to change RhondoKnightmon, but nothing about Ranamon was controversal that it had to be changed.

I personally never liked Davis' voice. Yeah, I know but ever since I saw the first episode as a kid I thought, "Hey wait a minute, this isn't Tai!"

Episode 14: SHURIMON OF THE WIND

Previously, we got to see Hikari travel to a strange area unseen before in the Digital World. She was rescued by Takeru, Patamon and Tailmon in time but, and I quote, "What exactly was that place? All these questions remain unanswered." YEAH THEY SURE DO TOEI!

Yaaaaaay! Next to Steven Blum's voice as Fladramon, Shurimon was my second favorite armor Digimon. Now, I do have an affinity for ninjas (NOT that other show) and as a child I thought Shurimon was so freakin' cool. I mean, he had a giant shuriken, legs that looked like springs and the best part, Shurikens as his feet! Freakin' awesome.

By the way, they should have just called this episode "Miyako and her Ultimate Fantasy Come to Life (with Shurimon)." I mean, my god, could she be any more of a fangirl? "Mimi onee-sama~" Uggghh.... Miyako will you just hurry up and make out with Mimi already so we can be done with this?

I've been wondering this for a while but wouldn't it be awesome if Betamon was the same Seadramon from Season 1?

Last thing to point out. Ahh canon events. Don't you just love when you are rewarded for watching sequels to a series and then learning about the importance of them later. When it showed Daisuke and the others and what they were doing during Vamdemon's attack, that was awesome. Oh and how Miyako helped during the Diaboromon fight? Isn't it great that we saw the movie or else we never would have gotten that. Man, its good to know these things (srs buisness)

OH MY GOD, THE YELLOW DIGIMON AT THE END IS THE SAME SEIYUU AS SHIN-CHAN!

Ahahah Sukamon and Chumon hitting on Mimi again...just like old time.

I always loved Digitamamon! He's an awesome Digimon! So odd and unique! With his invicible shell! WOOT!

Its odd how here Betamon doesn't get a Digivolution sequence but later on in the world tour he (and Gotsumon) do get one. Weird.

Miyako going all fangirly for Mimi and Michael hahaha.

Nice little bit of english there Toei "See you tomorow!". Altough Michael didn't seem to have any sort of accent for an American.

Decided to check out Dagomon's Cry, since its one of the few subtitled eps I want to see.

Hmm, what's that strange looking dark thing-

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! MADNESS! A thing! From another- The grimore ichor covers his unspeakable orifices! Dreams not seen since the time of dawn! What a elderich horror! It dead and yet dreaming!

As others probably know, this episode probably was not meant to be followed up on. Much like the previous episode, it probably was just filler. But I'll elaborate on those reasons latter.

I was rather disappointed with the Sub title. A more appropriate title would have been "Dagomon's Call", since the whole episode is basically a homage to H.P. Lovecraft.

Konaka manages to create a successful Lovecraftian atmosphere. The darkness, silences, eerie towns, and unseen and unknown horrors create a dark and dangerous place. The dub loses this by having more lines than the original had.

Tailmon (Tail?) has always been an awesome character. I agree that I love her voice, and she got some good lines. Although, iI find it odd that Tailmon seems to have the sexiest voice in the whole show...

Although briefly mentioned, this is the few times the Digimon actually pondered that their frienRAB were aging. Tailmon remarks how the Chosen have aged, but the Digimon stay the same. It would have been an interesting topic to tackle.

Yeah, that's not weird or creepy at all

But the most controversial issue is what was the point of the Dark Ocean? What didn't we see Cthulh- I mean Dagomon again? And why wasn't it elaborated upon?

For the simple reason is that its stylized after Lovecraft. In the Cthulhu Mythos, the protagonists almost never see the horrible monster at all.

Lovecraft loves to do this to his readers.

He basically develops the fear of some far off fear, then begins to make it grow with more and more dark omens, until the horrifying climax. And even then, the Horror is still largely left up to the reader's imagination.

The fact that Lovecraft never fully gave descriptions of his Cosmic Monsters is probably the biggest source of fear for the reader. Their imaginations take over, haunting them in their sleep, in the dark, when they're alone.

It's also why Lovecraft rarely followed up on his stories. The fact that it was concluded, and that there was some unseen horror running around creeps the audience out.

Which is why episode 14 was most likely not meant to be followed up upon. Konaka deliberately left the underwater master barely seen and unknown to create this sense of uneasiness for the viewers.

That, and it most likely if the Chosen Children did face the Undersea lord, their sanity would not last.

Dagomon's call was a prototype for the D-Reaper plot of Tamers.

You know Tailmon's a sexy adult! Short but sexy catgirl Hmmm that voice...
she was the most popular Digimon of her era in term of Lemon participation hahahaha.

In Digimon World Dusk and Dawn for RAB the bad guys want to introduce 'Chrono data' into the Digital World, essential making Digimon age. The humans have to explain to the Digimons that humans don't evolve but age and then at one point just die of old age, a concept completely foreign to Digimons.

Yeah, I thought of the same thing when I saw the recap subtitles. I got a good laugh out it at least.

I thought that this was a nice episode, but I agree that Miyako could not have been more obvious of her fangirlness over Mimi. She did keep on calling Michael dreamy, but I thought that it was pretty clear that Miyako was jealous of Michael being around Mimi and not spending as much time as she wanted with her. I remeraber in the dub the kiRAB had Digidollars instead of yen, which was fun to remeraber.

I was surprised that Miyako could get her second Digimental by crying out like that. Then again, Daisuke got his second one by admitting how much he messed up with fighting MentalGreymon. While it is cool how Shurimon has those spring-like legs and was like a ninja, I was never that interested in him. Then again, I pretty much only liked Fladramon and Raidramon when I first watched the dub. It was cool how Shurimon got rid of the Evil Spiral though.

I kind of thought of that too when I first saw the dub. It would be pretty cool if that was the case.

I could see that as being a possibility, considering how the episode and the D-Reaper plot have some similar characteristics.

Overall, it was a fun episode. I mostly got a laugh from Miyako going completely fangirl over Mimi. Mimi punching Sukamon and Chumon was a nice touch too. I'm not sure how I'll feel about the next episode since I don't recall enjoying that much from the dub, but maybe it will be different. I'll be happy to watch it next week and see how it turns out.
