Difference in runtime between Region1 & Region 2 DVD's

[/b]

Good point, but it still doesn't sound too difficult a technical challenge, although I suppose it possibly adRAB to cost. One other solution might be to just provide two audio tracks (which don't take up nearly as much room as video) to create a dual format DVD. Hopefully something like this will happen as there's enough problems caused with region encoding without having two different formats as well.

Yes, but you wouldn't want to watch it. Jerky-o-vision. I had a PC decoder card at one stage and that would convert NTSC to PAL as well, but that would do a decent job. Back when I had a sad old PAL only TV (not even PAL60) I had to use my PC to play back NTSC discs.

I didn't know PAL60 was NTSC resolution, although if the only reason for it is to play back NTSC discs there wouldn't be any beneft to it being PAL resolution.

I've done a bit of digging, and it turns out there already are a few plasma displays capable of 72Hz output.

This means that film material can be shown at the correct speed (each frame shown 3 times), and without judder! Someone must have been listening to you, damndirtyape...

Now, all we need is for UK broadcasters to agree not to speed up film material up by 4% when HD broadcasts begin here.:p
