Difference between UIQ and Series 60 ??

Hello all- I am curious as to the difference between the UIQ system as in the Sony Ericsson W950 and the Series 60 system as in the N73 ??
I am still new to these as the N73 is my first phone of this type but am looking to get a SE W950, and am wondering if with the SE I will be able to download the same apps, get Yahoo Go ! and just the same type of things I can do with the series 60.
I read a post somewhere that the only difference between the 2 is that the UIQ is basically stylus driven (touchscreen) but am wondering about any others, if there are any.

Cheers everyone, LL-

They are completely different OSes. UIQ was developed as a touch screen OS. The programs that work on S60 will not work on UIQ. There must be a specific UIQ or S60 version of the program. I am sure someone smarter than me will come in and put up a TON more information, but I think that basically answers the question.

Oh, so the apps for the S60 can not be used in the UIQ handsets... I wonder if there are as many download/applications available for the UIQ system as for the series 60 ??? I would imagine that S60 is much more popular and therefore more choices of downloads.

Cheers mate !!!! LL-

The latest versions of BOTH systems, ie UIQ3 and Series 60 3rd edition, are both relativley weak on apps. I wouldnt say any one is great, though S60 3rd seems to have maybe slightly more apps. But both are right now very weak in terms of software offerings compared to Windows Mobile.

Two smart platforms based on same OS, but at the same time two completely different concepts, the major difference between these two platforms is the fact that S60 is developed for ?single-hand? use, and the UIQ is for the ?two-hand? use.

S60 UI is controlled by navy and two soft keys and almost all operation you can do with just one hand, from other side, UIQ supports touch input and therefore requires both hand for controlling, one for phone and another for stylus.

Hope that helps
