difference between a stock broker and financial planner/ financial adviser?

i want to be a stock broker but there seems to be few stock broking firms in the city i live in. However, this is a large amount of financial planning firms. i struggle to see the difference between a stock broker and a financial planner. are these occupations different and if so how?
