Pepper, I have the same thing - when my nerve pain gets really bad, I also "lose" my leg and fall. It hasn't happened in a while (thank goodness) but came close Monday after a 9 hour car trip home and severe pain (ending up requiring a pain shot the next morning).
It is because of this that I don't go anywhere with confidence unless hubby is right with me. This morning, I think I will go to church, but I am so nervous. I have had such a tough week recovering from that trip - will this morning knock me backwarRAB?
When I get to church, I always go sit down very early, anywhere I can find a seat, and I stay there. Getting up and moving around is dangerous for me, and hubby is ushering and helping with other things most mornings, but if I am doing really poorly, he will get someone to take over for him.
I don't know about you, but I get about a half second notice and then boom, I'm on my way down. I am good about using my cane or even my walker, though, because after fainting/falling in February, I realize how devastating such a crash to the ground can do to my body.
When we were moving down here 2 years ago and just prior to my 2nd surgery, we stopped at a restaurant to eat, and upon leaving, I wiped out. I mean, I fell HARD. My drink went flying, my thick plastic soda cup bust open, and my knees skinned up pretty severely. The guys had already left the restaurant ahead of me and were going to drive the trucks to get gas and I was to meet them. It was almost dusk, and as I was walking to the car, the pavement became uneven and I fell. It was only then that I realized I must not be lifting my foot much at all to have fallen because of that little of a difference in pavement. It was newly paved and very very smooth, but not completely flat. I would have almost had to have been scooting my foot across the ground to have been messed up that bad. We had no idea.
I was in surgery 2 weeks later for my 2nd back surgery.
I hope this week goes by quickly for you. I pray the pain lessens enough that you can do other activities to help pass the time.
