Diesel fuel caused my bike to spill

Another great weekend for riding all the way up till Labor Day morning. We made our first stop at a Sheetz gas station to hit the restrooms before we headed up North. This was a normal for us after eating breakfast and getting the first 100 miles of the morning. While leaving the gas station, apparently a truck must not of put his diesel fuel cap back on and spilled diesel fuel making a turn out of the gas station. I in turn pulled out of the gas station and had my Ultra fish tail and spin right out from under me. Lucky for me I wasn't hurt and the Ultra received minimal damage. Just the highway pegs, motor protector bar, floor boards and the bag protector bar were scratched.

Just something to think about the next time you leave a gas station.......

You must have goosed it pretty good to fishtail like that. Fortunatley you weren't hurt and the bike came thru ok. I guess you were able to continue your ride?

The other day I stopped at a red light, put my left foot down and my foot almost kept sliding out, until I pulled it back. Someone had leaked something out and I didn't see it, stepped in and almost went down. Gotta pay closer attention I guess... The liquid that was on the road wasn't real visible though...

That exactly what I was thinking after I got the bike back up and on its kickstand. Just some small scratches, no major damage. Finished riding and enjoyed the rest of the day. Today I will be on the phone with Harley to get this stuff fixed.

Sorry to hear about your fall but, glad you are alright. Diesel fuel, oil, tranny fluid and many others are out there waiting for us all, good reminder. Also remember, that grease line in the center of the lane is the slickest when it first starts to rain. Stay safe everyone.

like alot of states, here in pa, we have alot of truck traffic, therefor alot of diesel fuel leaks, for all of u who never encountered runnin through some of that on a windy road, thank the road gods, otherwise its like hittin a sheet of ice!! i always have that in the back of my mind! its a good thing u were at least still in the lot when this happened! glad to here u were ok

This happened to me a long time ago as well - the side mounted fuel tanks on trucks easily let fuel splash out when the operator forgets to cap it after refueling. I hit just a little bit of the stuff while rounding a turn at about 50 mph and it was an experience I will never forget. I managed to stay upright but lost control and almost had a close encounter with the guardrail. it doesn't take much...

My wife and I took our bikes on a loop this Summer for vacation, and rode thru the area around Barry's Bay, Ontario. There's a lot of logging in the area, so lot's of logging trucks. We were coming over the crest of a hill @ 50mph or so on a nice gentle downhill, and ~1/8 of a mile ahead was a stop sign at a T intersection. I guess when the logging trucks "stop and roll" to make the left, they tend to spill a bit of fuel! Lucky that we saw the discoloration far enough out to slow down before we got into it.

Glad you didn't let it ruin your ride.
