Die Hard 4.0. A Rare Case Of A Good Fourth Film In A Film Franchise?

I was watching Die Hard 4.0 for the third time the other night and I think its great and must be one of the best fourth films in a franchise ever. usually the fourth film in a long running franchise tenRAB to be a real turkey. Consider the following:-

Batman And Robin
Alien Resurrection
Police Academy 4
Star Wars The Phantom Menace
Superman 4

Sure you can think of many more. So its a refreshing that the fourth Die Hard film turned out so well. Lets hope the fourth Indiana Jones wont disappoint. anyone else think of any other fourth instalments that were good? I suppose Thunderball, the fourth Bond film was good but that was in 1965.

To be honest I thought Die Hard "4.0" was a bit of a turkey, and not the Die Hard I've grown up with... I have yet to see the heavier cut of the film thats doing the rounRAB on DVD though...which I hear is more like it's predecessor's :)

It was OK-still not a patch on the original, but a HUGE improvement on DH3 which had the feel of being cobbled together and made up as they went along.

i thought die hard4 was ok, but i dont really understand why they made it a 'techno thriller' as the original films didnt have any element of this. I'm also not a fan of the genre of techno thrillers as i dont find it very entertaining having scene after scene of people typing and i find they date really badly (just check out all the 80's films that feature people hacking into the defence system with a zx spectrum)

i also dont really understand what made it a 'die hard' film (other than having Bruce in it, obviously) and it could have just as easily been a brand new franchise.

It was also let down by a weak villain (surprising, as that guy is pretty good in Deadwood) and a annoying Kevin Smith cameo.

Other than that, it had a few decent action scenes and was fairly watchable

Agreed.
All the Die Hard sequels made the error of portraying Maclane as James Bond rather than just the wrong guy (albeit a cop) in the wrong place. Die Hard 4.0 was no exception, coasting along on Willis's charm and wasting the talents of Maggie Q and Timothy Olyphant . Forgettable really.

I thought Saw IV was pretty good, and anyway better than Saw III.

The worst 3rd sequel I can think of is Hellraiser IV.

I've yet to see Die Hard 4.0, but as for Alien Resurrection, it's obviously not as good as the original films, but I enjoyed it a lot. Don't know why it keeps getting put into worst lists. I prefer it over Alien3 actually. :p

IMO I thought it was a pretty food general film but poor in comparison to its predocecers.

It would have been far better if it hadnt been a John Mclane film but then I suppose it wouldnt have done as well without the familiarity
