Did your age affect whether you related to Homer or Bart more growing up?

Like many I assume, I was a little kid when I first started watching Simpsons back in the early 90's. As a kid, I always found myself relating to Bart. His problems at school, having a sibling, always getting into trouble with his parents, Bart was my favorite character as a kid.

Naturally, I grew up. Now as an adult, I find myself relating to Homer's problems much more. His problems at the job, with his wife, with his friends, and with his kids.

Is anyone else like this? Where as a kid you related to Bart the most, whereas now as an adult you find yourself relating to Homer more? It goes to show you how odd it is that we have all aged in real life yet the Simpsons haven't.
 
Its true to some extent but you also have to take into account that for the past decade or so they've heavily marketed Homer while in the 90s it was Bart who was heavily marketed and focused on.

I started liking Homer more by the time I was in fifth grade but yeah before that I definitely liked Bart more since he was the kid and the 'main' character. I kinda miss that the show no longer focuses on Bart that much though its all about Homer and as much as I like him, too much of a good thing is never good. Who knows, Bart may be too 90s to be the face of the simpsons again.
 
I liked both characters the most, but I could never relate to either character at any age point of my life. They're two polar opposites taken to an extreme, especially their portrayals in more recent seasons. I've never been as open about my reactions to situation like either of them so I had a hard time empathizing with them when their actions were met with repercussions.
 
i'd say that i've related to Homer since 2000 but really never related to Bart even though i was a 10 year old boy when it started.



Actually my dad used to get mad at weird points and chase me. My Principals hated me and i was always getting in to trouble and have ADD and had a nerdie friend lastly had two younger siblings. i was bart but never really related to him
 
I never placed so much stock in relating to the characters I'm watching. If I can, then great.

But as for Bart and Homer, I enjoyed (not related mind you) both of them. Bart for his mischeavus streak and Homer for him simplemindedness.
 
For me.. the First 2 seasons are Home and Marge dealing with Bart, their troublesome kid.

Seasons 3 and 4 was more Family centered.

Season 5 and 6 altough Homer had it's focus episodes it was mostly Bart/Lisa solving a problem in Springfield.

Seasons 7 and 8 were more cliched mostly dealing with lessons for everyone. Like being yourself. (Summer of 40ft 2.)

I say from Season 9 onwards.. specially in the recent seasons have been more Homer Centric.
 
Season 10 may have gone full mode on Homer, but since Season 9 you can notice most of the plots revolve around him. and even Season 10 had some episodes like "Bart the mother"

Bart as homer sidekick began on Season 9
 
My childhood personality pales in comparison with Bart's personality. I was a child who was afraid of getting into trouble and fell in love with the Weather Channel. And I think it's a bit too early to match my personality with Homer's personality because I'm only 24 years old.
 
As a kid, i always related the most to Bart of the Simpsons family members. I actually thought about why i did that sometimes (because i was in fact a very calm and obedient kid, much unlike Bart), and i came to the conclusion that Homer was just to stupid to relate to, Lisa was to smart, Marge was to nice, and Maggie had no personality to begin with.

These days however, i dont think i relate to any family member more than the others.

I do like beautiful intelligent women though so maybe I'll end up like homer. The dumb husband with a smart wife. :sweat:
 
NEver really related to either character (wasn't remotely that misbehaving as a kid, and not remotely as stupid as Homer as an adult).

Though I'll note when the show debuted, I was only five years older than Bart (and my *parents* were about same ages as Homer). Now at this point, I'm (depending on the quoted age) almost the same age as Homer (or the same age as Marge, per an early episode)...

I'd say that applies to me, too. I'm pretty much a realist and try to be a voice of reason. I get frustrated with the way others conduct themselves, too.
