Wow people love to tear down hero's. Yes that was one plan , he also tried setting up a colony on a Caribbean island that failed due to disease. Considering Democrats at the time were running adds saying Lincoln wanted the blacks to sleep with all the white daughters as a way to prevent the abolition of slavery, he tried and considered all sorts of ways to pull it off successfully.
It was a different time with different beliefs and judging Lincoln who was extremely "modern" in his views for his time, by our current standards would be like judging all of todays democrats by the racism they promoted during the Civil War.
