Did you argue with anyone about animation?

I would like to ask this to anyone, if it has happened. Now we all like cartoons who doesn't? However there is always that certain person that you always argue with. Your friends, your parents, basically anyone you talk you. So have you argued with anyone about animation?

When I was in high-school I argued with my older brother on how he was hypocritical when it came to adult animation, he said that it wasn't profitable. When I mentioned that he was looking at South Park and Family guy on his tv....

Anyone got a story?

I've had different arguments with people over animation but the one I can actually recall are augments with others that felt that anime aren't cartoons.

All the arguments I've had were with people who gave the same generic counter arguments defending their belief that anime isn't the same as cartoons.

Those were fun.

^I've had a few run-ins with the "anime is something different from cartoons" people myself. I even once got into it with a guy who said that animated superhero shows (like Batman and Superman: TAS, Spider-Man, X-Men and Justice League) weren't cartoons. I get that these shows aren't the typical "squash and stretch" cartoon fare, but if they aren't cartoons, then what are they? Scoops of ice cream? If something is animated, it's a cartoon.

Two things my experiences online has taught me to avoid are: shipper discussions and 'Batman VS Superman' debates. Both are like lighting a match in a fireworks factory.

I've had a few arguments with my friend about the animation in "Family Guy". I think its pretty bad and no movement...and my friend doesn't really mind it. Now It doesn't bother me as much, but still at the time I thought it was weird that he liked it.

The only person I've had a real difference of opinion with is my stepfather who's one of the typical "anything animated is for children" people, but I've found it's not worth my time to actually argue with him over it. He is a big King of the Hill fan though so I guess his bias is selective.

I had an argument with my sister on who the best animator on Yugioh 5D's is. Each animator has their own style (this show fails at consistency in art and animation) so we defended our favorite one.

We're such nerds. :p

I also debated with my brother on Chowder vs. Flapjack. That was fun, I guess. It was mostly just the silly 'NO U' kind of yelling though.

I've argued with my mom over cartoons. She takes it way more seriously than I do, apparently. (Not cartoons, but the arguement)

I asked her why she didn't like stupid characters in cartoons and stuff with morals and role models.

I argue with you dorks every day. :D

But the only real life argument I've ever had with someone about animation was with a roommate who said his problem with The Lion King was that "animals shouldn't use human language."

Ah, just remembered anorther argument I've had different times on the net.

The differences between American Dad, Family Guy, and The Cleveland Show.

You an me both man. I've had a couple heated arguements with a couple of friends about that subject a while ago. Basically it was, " anime is the greatest thing since sliced bread and no lowly american cartoon can have a deep plot and engaging characters like anime can". I had to give them examples of some "lowly" american toons that had engaging plots such as Gargoyles, Batman TAS, and Exosquad.

Nothing, really. Guess I was lucky growing up. My parents would watch cartoons with me (my dad loved Looney Tunes and B:TAS), and in high school my friends and I would hang out at one another's house and watch Animaniacs, B:TAS, etc.

I've never had an argument over animation outside of this place either:p. I've had discussions of animation with plenty of people in school, home, etc, but that's not the same thing. I suppose in school we learned more by talking and critiquing each others work rather than argue about it.

My dad (who doesn't know English) keeps yelling at me for watching South Park by claiming that it's a show for preschoolers. I try to explain it to him, but he just doesn't listen and thinks that I'm watching a show akin to Dora The Explorer or Rainbow Brite. Oddly, he gives the exact opposite reaction when he's watching Pixar movies.

I've been having the opposite situation, where I had an argument with someone at a forum who kept thinking that all anime was nothing but poorly-drawn fanservice schlock.

I've squared off against 1 or 2 people who claim that "all anime looks the same" or "all anime is just a bunch of guys with crazy hairdos, giant robots and chicks with big breasts fighting demons or playing card games", but I've only encountered them online. Of course it helps that my younger brother is an otaku and so I'm constantly surrounded by anime fans.

Ah yes, the "Anime and Cartoons are two different things" debate. I have been involved in debates where someone tried to convince me that anime and cartoons are two totally different things but personally see them as one in the same, animation is animation to me and anime is just a cartoon produced in Japan. Period. The "anime is different" crowd hates that response because they have no real comeback for it and usually just respond with, "No it isn't!" without anything to back it up. It kind of sucks sometimes because I'm such a huge fan of anime and manga and most people who are true "Otaku" style fans really just seem to have a chip on their shoulder and a deep distain for standard cartoons to the point where they really do think that manga is something different from comics and anime is something other than a cartoon, some are willing to actually fist fight over it. Just crazy.

Oh, about all the time. Some times I have Friendly arguments with my friends. About whats good, about things they should keep, about things they should change. Not all the time we see eye to eye, but it doesn'y go over board with the arguments.

But, at times, where I'm fire up, where I get some mad that I don't back down, are when people start leaving statments: All cartoons are for kids, anime sucks, people that do animation have nothing good do to do, cartoons never have good stories, it will never be big, it will never be mature, etc.
Thats where I go out and attack. What, if something live-action it will be good, but if something thats in animation it won't? Thats dumb, where's the logic of that?
