Did Twilight author S. Meyer copy off of L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries?

I personally think that Stephanie Meyer ripped off Vampire Diaries. Come on, Vampire falls in love with a mortal, werewolves (yes there are wolves in V.D. (Tyler). Mortal eventually finds out about vampire's past. And it is fact that L.J. Smith could not have copied Stephanie Meyer because Twilight was published in 2004 when Vampire Diaries was published in 1991! Please tell me any differences in the books if there are any
tell me like, what did she change??
