Hobbes was often accused of atheism. Did he ever explicitly deny that he was an atheist?
If he didn't make any such denial (and such a denial would have accrued the benefit for him of offsetting the allegations of atheism against him which made him unpopular in his lifetime) it rather hints that he was indeed an atheist.
