Did the initial contact between the europeans and natives yield positive...

to what extent did they yield positive outcomes and progress for human civilization?
 
Neferdyrass: Most of them were killed due to smallpox, since they weren't exposed to the illness before so didn't have an immunity or anything. It wasn't done on purpose.. it was just lucky for the Europeans I guess. Cause there were well enough of the Natives (Aztecs? something like that) to kill the Europeans. But no, they died mostly due to disease.

I dont know how to answer this as I dont know the first time Europeans met with Natives.
