Yes and no. On the one hand, they showed that people could voice their opinions and make an impact on politics. They showed that activism is effective. On the other hand, they went a little extreme and gave liberalism and the left, and a lot of other free-thinking ideas a bad stigma. It was a good movement that got extreme and drew a pretty heavy backlash. As a result, a lot of the ideas and arguments of the left and hippies at that time, got a bad name and led to the general disregard of those arguments, even though some of them were quite good. For example, the green movement is often stigmatized in the U.S. for being a sort of hippy idea, and thus not a lot of people take it as seriously as they should, whereas in countries like Germany, there is no stigma for having green/eco-friendly attitudes. I think you'd be hard pressed to put a definite yes or no on this one, but good luck.
