Did Shakira have issues with past boyfriends?

I am very sad to find out that the lovely and talented Shakira has taken a "break" with her fiance of ten years. :(

I am curious to know whether she had issues in her past relationships. So many of her songs seem to be about being unhappy in love, and I wonder if her previous relationships inspired this.
