Did my teacher really think that was a religious debate?

A teacher I had a couple of years ago once asked me if I am really against religion and I said "well yes" or something like that.
On parent teacher night that semester she said to my parents "I have been having lots of religious debates with your son".

How is the above a religious debate or any debate at all, I just stated what I believed.

BTW: that is about the only conversation we had about this that year, so she couldn't be talking about something else.

It's not a debate. She sounds like a teacher who thinks she has to have great, meaningful conversations with her students.

teachers say lots of crap all the time, my PE teacher said i was " an enthusiastic student with a thirst for competitive sports" whilst actually I'd not even turned up to a single lesson the whole year!
it seems to me that a lot of teachers struggle to remember anything of value and therefore just rely on the odd thing you might have said, your answer to his question on religion might well have sufficiently irritated him enough to be the only thing that he could truly remember talking to you about.

Maybe she was trying to seem like she talks to you more than once during the year.
