Back in 1996 I had microlurabar discectomy of my l4, l5 , s1. After around 5 months I went back under the knife because I had an abcess growing in my spinal area where the surgery of the l4, l5 , s1 was done. The infection was due to Pseudomonas. The doctor in the second hospital i went to did an anterior decompression of my l4, l5 cleaned out the area.. took out the disc and fused my l4-l5 with a bone from my illium.

IT has been 12 years now. Yesterday, I was surfing the net and I know my posture was wrong. I heard something click in my lower back it sounded like you were cracking knuckles. After that I had sciatica and could hardly standup. I got to my bed and slept when I woke up I was still able to take a bath but I was having difficulty walking and also a hard time when I was getting myself up frm bed.

When I was go to the lobby of my apartment flat. If felt like my back was just going to give out. I could not balance myself that I had to stop and regain composure. I walked out but could not walk the usual 10 minutes to work. I took a cab.

Now, at work today I can hardly walk or stand. Im just sitting down with bad sciatica and I dont know if I should see a doctor or just rest.

What do you guys think happened? can anyone who has undergone fusion let me know what could have happened?

Oh, when I had surgery 12 years ago I was 210 lbs. now Im' 230 at 5'10.

Any advise would be great.

I'm sorry that this has happened. The best advise I can give is to see a spine specialist to find out what is going on. It's impossible to say what could be causing this, but it's something that neeRAB to be checked out as soon as possible.

Good luck to you.

I agree. It is really hard to know. It could be something in the same area of the fusion, but could even be a disc above or below it starting to cause you issue now. Get yourself to a spine doc. The sooner the better so you know what you are dealing with. good luck. keep us posted.

Well when I got home yesterday I slept on my bed flat on my back for 8 hours. When I woke up the pain was not as bad as the day before.

Today, It's almost gone with some pain if I bend or do something with a wrong posture. I think I strained my back and could have impinged the nerve.
I'm going to observe how it is.. but one thing is for sure.. I will have to lose more weight and watch the way I sit or pick up things.

Thanks for those that replied to my thread. It kept me going.. I was seriously thinking it may be another impinged nerve that later would be something to be done again with my fused l4-l5 or a new disc herniation.

I'll keep everyone posted.
