- 2 JBL 12" Subwoofers (1200 Peak watts, 300 watts RMS)
- 1 JBL Grand Touring Series Amplifier (600 watts max power)

so im a pretty big noob to this whole thing, but im pretty sure ive got the idea.

okay. so this is not in a car as of yet. but i have figured out a way of powering it with a battery charger.(help from a friend whos done it before)

the battery charger has a switch, 6V and 12V
when its on 6V the power light comes on (blue)
and when i switch it to 12V the protect light come on (red)

does this mean that i fucked up the amp ?
or is it just a short of some sort ..

if anyone could help me out with an actual good answer i would thank you so much .

The "12-volt" setting on a battery charger doesn't mean it produces 12 volts. It means that it produces enough voltage to charge a 12-volt battery. Depending on the charger, this might be higher than the amp specs. Many amps will go into protect mode if they detect a voltage above 15 volts. Some battery chargers will produce voltages at that level, or higher.

If the protective circuit is doing its job, your amp should be okay. Don't try to use it with just a battery charger, though.

The power supply may have a "current limit" protect built in. When you crank in 12 volts certain circuits that were dormant at the 6 volt level kick in. The capability of the power supply, the is the current maximum, is probably exceeded when you set for 12 volts. That will make a protect light come on when using a small power supply.
