Did Hitler deny (to his people) that the camps were death camps?

Did he ever make announcements to the German people, or circulate stories, that the camps (where he sent the enemies of his movement) were not in fact extermination or labor camps?

Basically, did he cover up his dirty work from 1939-1945?
Excellent information, everyone. Thank you so much.

The camps were seldom discussed, but they were always referred to as 'concentration camps' or 'labour camps'. Concentration merely means a place to keep a group of people together, it does not mean a death camp per se.

But the truth is that any German who chose to open his/her eyes knew what was happening, knew that their neighbors went missing and never returned.

If you know anything about Hitler, you know he'd say pretty much anything, whether true or not, if he thought it would serve his purposes.

His overall strategy with his people, however, seems to be more of a denouncing of Jews and lying about their conspiracy against Germany so that he could build a base of support for their removal to concentration camps. What went on in the concentration camps would have been largely out of public view. The effort would have been more focused on using the right language, not specifically indicating death or extermination but using some other more vague, dishonest terminology. With the SS running things, the culture of fear would have prevented much trouble from arising because of anybody's suspicions.
