Dude, if you've got the means, go for it. If you have more than one, you don't have to worry about putting a ton of miles on ONE bike.
Just make sure you don't overpay for that 748. I missed on a mint 748R about a year ago that I could have swept up for $6500! I was waiting for a dealer in Santa Rosa to hook me up with a Hailwood they were "certain" to get from an estate sale. Needless to say, I passed on the R and the Hailwood never really materialized. I was PISSED!
Oh, and unless you're a wrench, get your wallet ready. Those 749/916/996/998 bikes carry a hefty maintenance schedule. They ain't like the new ones!
