northern california? I was wondering if anyone saw an incredibly bright flash of light in Northern California last friday night(March 13th). It was almost 1 in the morning about 12:49 to be exact. It was so bright the whole room flashed white for a second. My husband and I were visiting my brother in the Arcada area. Everyone else was asleep and didn't see it. We are still wondering what it was, probably a meteorite. Whatever it was it was close by and kindof freaked us out. Did anyone else see this?

It was either a large meteor (fireball) or an iridium flare (sunlight reflecting off the solar panels of a satellite). Unfortunately, they only keep track of the flares for about 48 hours after they happen, so I don't know of any way of looking up whether you had seen one or not. But they aren't too uncommon. You should have asked earlier.

Neither fireballs nor flares make any noise unless the fireball results in a meteorite that contacts Earth very close to you (very uncommon).
