did adam and eve really do something bad in the garden of eden?

first off, dont reply it doesnt exist, using reason hardly ever works with them religious folks. better off outsmarting them on their very own playing field. like i always say, the bible is the single greatest concern for christianity. (after rationality that is)

anyways, im sure everyone is familiar with the story, talking snake convinces rib woman eve to eat magical fruit of knowledge of good and evil. eve gives some to adam, god finds them both hiding their happy parts and kicks them out to procreate without immortality.

but if the fruit was a fruit of knowledge of good and bad, and it seems only after eating the fruit did adam and eve know good and bad. how could god possibly punish them when they made the decision without knowing wtf good and evil was, without knowing what good and bad was?

sure, upon eating the fruit, in hindsight they may realise error, but to allow two people with the knowledge of roughly a 2 year old due to their sheltered lives to make an informed decision without knowing whether god was evil or good or in between, they might know that not following god's instructions was wrong, but they didnt know that wrong=bad.

get my logic?

in short, before eating the fruit. they had no free will in a sense, they could never make a proper judgement and would rely on beings around them to make the judgements for them. how could god punish them for talking to the talking snake and allowed such influence to rub off onto them when they are hardly capable resisting.
whats with all this. "THE TREE IS A METAPHOR."

if you want to take gods word as gods word. then he wouldnt allow you to corrupt and misinterpret his words. literal translation = what i said. rib woman ate knowledge, man followed womans advice who got advice from snake. god was displeased they covered their happy parts and so they were kicked out. if the tree of knowledge could be a metaphor repesenting law or sin. i could just as easily say the snake represents jesus in his earliest form. individual bias shouldnt seep into understanding gods word.
