Dic?s Darkstalkers animated series

Well, DarkStalkers didn't last as long as Street Fighter and MegaMan did, and for good reason. Still, there should be a Street Fighter Topic, and how Season 2 involved more of the Alpha Series characters, like Rose, Sakura, Cody and Guy, and even Akuma! The only thing that's better than Street Fighter is MegaMan, though.

Yeah, in tournament fighting games, pretty much everyone has their own reasons for doing everything. It's one of the things that actually makes them difficult to adapt.

The main thing that gets me is the idea of Demitri working for Pyron. Wasn't he the main guy who was trying to stop him in the first game?

I do find it hard to believe that they all have likable traits. For example, everything I've read about Lord Raptor makes him seem like a sick, rotten piece-of-work.

You'd probably think differently if you saw her in motion. Like all of the other characters in the show, she goes off-model about once every 20 seconds.

It's basically an unintentionally hilarious show that's impossible to enjoy unironically, although would I have watched it if I were 8 years old or so? Absolutely.

They're not all going to be heroic, but for the most part, there's only a few that come off as being truly manically evil. Raptor gets quite the cool scene in the OVA, saving Felicia from a cadre of demon hunters (after she saves his butt earlier but ends up outnumbered). None of that comes off in the TV show.

I hardly paid attention to the quality as a kid since this cartoon was the first time I heard of Darkstalkers before I played any of the games.

Seeing it now, it seems outdated and hard to watch.

I did noticed the Morrigan/Demitri rivalry was childish in this show...

I understand the whole bad-yet-sympathetic monster thing. Heck, it's a classic concept going back to the Universal horror films of the '30s and '40s. However, with Raptor, it's hard to get over the idea that he sacrificed an audience of his adoring fans in order to turn himself into a monster.

Personally, I've only seen about four episodes of the US cartoon and I've never seen the OVA because I heard it was a little bloody for my tastes (plus it focuses on Donovan, who I don't like). I just stick to the Udon Studios comics when I can get them. I hope Udon does another Darkstalkers mini someday.

I think this, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter show the pitfalls of trying to turn tournament fighting games into a TV show. If you at least kept in some of the complexities you'd have luck, but turning it into a general good vs evil story just makes for awkward teams.

I'm amazed a kids show got away with saying 'One of our characters is a succubus!'

From what I remember, the kids show made her a generic vampire, not a succubus, and of course, cutting out all the sexual allusions and innuendo surrounding her character.
