Diagnose solenoid issue on a Jeep?

I think My starter solenoid is bad. I turn the key...nothing. Was hit and miss , then nothing, period. Checked neutral safety switch, replaced ignition switch. When I ground out the solenoid, it will start fine, every time. My question is, since I have to buy the starter and solenoid together, how can I be sure this is it?
 
you can just buy the solenoid separately and change it. i would say 9 times out of 10 that,s the problem unless the battery is low or the terminals need cleaning.
 
if you have a battery charger u can take off the wires on the starter and hook up the charger right to the starter this is just 1 way of checking it but if it works right like this you know its not the starter
