...of antibiotics.? Week 1: I was coughing badly, had body aches (esp. back), chills, fatigue, and coughed up yellowish green phlegm. My entire throat and bronchial tubes felt wet and I could not stop coughing. I lost my appetite for 2 days and was feeling slightly nauseous. I thought it might be allergies and tried Benadryl. That did not work at all; so I knew it wasn't allergies. So I went to the doctor.
Doctor's Visit #1-Prescription: Doxycycline for 10 days & Robitussin syrup for bronchitis.
Week 2: Progress--the yellow phlegm went away with the antibiotics. BUT----The cough remained, and instead of coughing yellow stuff, I coughed up clear thick sludge. I coughed so much that I got general chest pain and a sharp pain in the right side of my chest. I no longer had chills but I still felt fatigued.
Weeks 3-5: Continued coughing and also still coughed up the clear thick sludge. It felt like the sludge was being produced from the tissue of back of my nose to the bronchial tubes. I found relief from coughing using Ibuprofen. Nothing other than Ibuprofen would help ease the cough--not Benadryl, not cough drops, not Theraflu, nothing. I would still produce clear sludge despite some relief from Ibuprofen.
Doctor's Visit #2-Prescription: Azithromycin for 4 days for Bronchitis.
Today this diagnosis was determined from looking up my nose with a scope and listening to my breathing with a stethoscope. I took my first day's dose of the Azithromycin. Earlier, while I waited to see the doctor, my coughing stopped but I'm still having the clear sludge. My throat feels a little sore today. My chest has a dull general pain that almost feels like it's coming from the lining on the front of my chest wall against the rib cage. It can't be muscle soreness because I've been coughing for 5 weeks; my muscles are used to it by now. It really feels like it could be the lining of my rib cage. Today, I've noticed that when I swallow, I have this real nasty taste in the back of my throat.
I'm a little frustrated because the doctors did not take any fluid samples or swabs to test in a lab. How would the doctors know if my illness is bacterial, viral, or even fungal without doing some kind of test? Is anyone out there experiencing similar symptoms to mine and knows through a lab test what they have? Maybe you took some medicine that cured your ailments? Any info would help.
