Episode 2: "The Road Less Travelled"​

The Heroes:

Seth - The leader of the Di-Gata defenders, and also the oldest. He is skilled, confident, charismatic, creative, and decisive. He controls the Nova Stone, a powerful Champion Stone which once belonged to his father. However, he is also impatient in battle and headstrong. He also likes to eat, which he can do with his eyes closed, is afraid of giant squirrels and tends to succumb to nausea more than the others due to his weak stomach.

Mel - Patient and level-headed in battle, she is also well-read given the years sequestered in the dojo library. She loves music, and is constantly singing and humming during the long journey. This drives the others crazy, especially since she's tone-deaf.

Erik - A skilled strategist. He can always seem to find a way around any attack. He is the technological tinkerer and has a good head for designing and building electronic gizmos. He tends to speak in technical jargon, however, when he works on technology, much to the confusion of others. He is the only stone-caster that uses an external device to use Di-Gata stones. He is also overprotective to his sister, Kara.

Kara - The youngest of the Defenders, and considered by the others to be the least skilled. She is very strong-willed and determined. The others (especially her big brother, Erik) always feel the need to protect her, but in fact she is more than capable of taking care of herself.

Professor Alnar - The old mentor of the young Defenders. He is the brother of the evil Nazmul, but unlike his brother, he is kind and caring. He is sometimes seen by Mel, but only at great times of need. At those times, Alnar is invisible to others.


The Villains:

Lord Nazmul - Once a loyal Wizard of Yan, Lord Nazmul fought for the forces of good alongside his brother, Alnar. But greed, corruption, and the promise of eternal life clouded his mind of all reason. He betrayed his calling by forming the evil Order Of Infinis. His goal is to gain access to enough realm energy to complete a powerful spell that would offer eternal life to him and his followers.

This is the very first Digata talkback thread ever in rabroad... i will try to tune in, since i was busy last week... and its true, i saw an ad for it, and yes, it is like Xialon Showdown, only without the comic relief villians like Jack Spicer... enjoy this ride 4KidsTV viewers, because its going to be a short one...
 
I wouldn't be so hasty in judgment. Calling it XS minus comic relief villains is selling this show pretty short. The characters are fun on their own and the story seems like it will play out very nicely. From what I've heard, I might be better off watching it regularly online rather than on TV, what with the shift in screen view and minor cuts, but I still hope this gets a decent run for those who can't get it online.
 
I'm probably gonna like this a WHOLE lot more than XS. That show didn't know how to carry a serious episode without somebody making a bad joke >_>

2. I hope we get to see V. Moth sometime, I wanted to see it =(
 
Mmm, not a bad ep. A little slow paced for my tastes, but I'm starting to enjoy the characters a little bit more, what little personality they have. We'll see how things go.
 
I really think they should've shown eps 1-3 as a movie just to get you into it... wait until you meet Bo in the later eps.
Ep. 5 has a few few villain and great Mel moments
 
That's what I liked about Xiaolin Showdown, actually. It never took itself too seriously, which was a nice change of pace from most Saturday morning action cartoons.
 
Therein lies the problem. Di-Gata Defenders isn't supposed to be a fast-paced, beat-'em-up action show, like Xiaolin Showdown. It's much more of an adventuring quest-type show, so in that case we're comparing apples to oranges.

For those worried about the pace so far, the journey's just getting started and the first three episodes were meant to be watched all at once. Give it a little while longer before writing this one off.
 
Well, the shows do share a very similar plot line...four young warriors on a mystical quest to gather magical items and stop villains from ruling the world.

But yes, the style in which the shows are executed are very different.
 
Episode 2 is really one of the weakest ep of the serie when it's not part of the 'movie'. Without episode 1 and 3 to surround it, it feels a bit lame.

At least it introduces Adam.



She (I think its refered to as a 'she' ) was in the first episode, in both mini and full sized form.

For the talkbacks I think Brackus, Malco and Flinch should be listed under the villains.
 
I kept thinking Id seen that symbol somewhere before, it most likely was your avy.

When I heard "Battle dice instead of cards" I groaned. There were things that I didn't like, like the wrist things that launched the "dice", minor point, but that they were using what I see as "Rune Stones" helps deviate from standard "duel" shows. Summoning magic (actually, in witchcraft, it is one of the top spells, but is often as dangerous to the user as the target) is good if it's done right. I was also surprised that the animation was not only interesting, but the characters seemed to have a bit of character to them. The best part that will likely help is the story line is a bit more complex than "I challenge your toys to prove I'm better".

I'm not completely sold on this, and feel it's a hard choice in a time slot that also has Xiaolin Showdown and Jane and the Dragon. But I'm likely to look on this with more favor than Chaotic.
 
I agree. It was funny, had some good fights, and was never dull. And unlike this show, I understand how the magic items work.

I've seen four episodes and I'm still not impressed.
 
Yeah I had the Dako sigil as an avie for a while, but I changed it when Hoshin Engi (the manga) was announced for the US... I changed it back to celebrate Di-gata getting exposure south of the borde.r

Erik and Flinch are the only characters in the entire series who use mechanical devices when casting Di-gata stones. All other characters just throw them... or use other weapons beside dice ;)
 
Well, I can't give it away. Di-Gata had two story arc.
The one airing is the Megalith Saga where that they must find the four Pure Stones to re-imprison Megalith.

The second one is the Ethos Saga.
