developing dry cough after taking a fall

Hiya! (:

My elderly mother fell onto her back and now has pain in her diaphram area when she tries to lay down or turn in bed. When she stands the pain is not noticeable but she has developed a dry cough at night and sometimes during the day. I'm sure the pain in her diaphram and the cough are related but not sure how. She said the diaphram pain is slowly getting better but the cough lingers. She did see her family doctor and he didn't seem to be disturbed by her symptoms although I'm not sure my mother told him about the dry cough.

Is your mom on any medications, such as for high blood pressure? some cause a dry cough.

You should encourage your mom to have an x-ray to check for possibly a cracked rib since they are what expand to take in a breath and move when we turn over, etc.

She might also have some nerve impingement that can cause diaphram pain.

Does she drink enough fluids? get enough calcium/magnesium and for sure vitamin D? Very essential for bone and body health, especially in the elderly (although they're finding out most everyone in low in D3).

Let us know the outcome.
