It's been almost 4 weeks since my surgery and I ended up in the ER yesterday. My left leg swelled up real huge and I had some redness. Went to ER and doctor thought I had a blood clot. They did an ultrasound and all was clear. The doctor dx me with cellulitis which is a staph infection of the skin. I got an IV of antibiotics and sent home with a prescription for Keflex

I'm bummed because I was doing pretty good and had a positive attitude. Better days ahead.

Moderator: I am still getting use to using this board and I do feel bad that I messed up Devon's one thread. At least I think I was the cause of it getting closed?

Cellulitis can be so bad. I got it from a fall that scraped my knee. I was on IV antibiotics for 3 weeks. A nurse came into my home to change the needle every couple of days and I wore a pump around my waist.

Hope that you heal well and the drugs do the job.

Kathy,
I developed cellulitis too after my first fusion surgery. In fact, it took some time before it cleared up finally and I was able to stop taking the antibiotics.
Keep taking them until they are finished and you get the final all clear, otherwise it can be a really bad infection to treat.
Take care,

Hey kathy?....dont be bummed! its just part of it.....your mind neeRAB to be possitive...I know its a set back but you are doing very good...Is this added pain? does it stop you from walking? Do what the doc says and I bet it will pass soon.

Devon

Hi Devon, yep, it is added pain. I am suppose to keep leg elevated because it is so swelled up. How are things going for you?

Mine did clear up but it was a slow process and unfortunately because of the IV antibiotics I ended up in hospital with bowel complications. Hey I am fine now and that was a few years ago. Another way to look at it is if it weren't for the antibiotics I wouldn't be here.

Kathy....Im doing really good....Im having my best day yet!....Im gearing up for my walk and may even push for a 2 mile today.....we'll see....Hows the leg swelling....is it going down? I had to keep my arm elevated once after a bad break and its hard I know......just follow orders.....next thing you know we will be in here helping all the rookies...lol

Do your pain meRAB help it :dizzy: What is recovery time on that type of thing?
