devaluing the Desmoisedici RR

I thought they looked like a slightly modified version of 848/1098/1198 headlights. Hell pretty close to CBR1000RR lights too.
 
all good comments. however, we've so far focussed on devaluation in fiscal terms. i wonder also the level of non-material or unquantifiable devaluation'?

for sure an RR will always be a 'special' bike. nonetheless, the more of them the less special they become. as time passes rarity adds to the mystique.

for me a 998R or '74 750 SS Green Frame will always have more legend, myth and appeal.
 
I think any Desmo new or old will be of value to any true motorcycle enthusiast simply because it's the closest we could come to owning an actual MotoGP bike. I remember lusting after Kevin Schwantz's RGV and Kocinski's Cagiva and wishing I could actually buy one or even close to one and then I got to ride a Marlboro YZF500 and REALLY wanted one but not only would one have been exorbitant money but they weren't even available to purchase except for racing. I'm sure I'm not alone in that dream so when Ducati actually put forth to build a purchasable bike that wasn't just your run of the mill replica, it was a big step and proved right.

I don't think a new Desmo would devalue the older one in the same way that a 1990 RGV ridden by Schwantz would devalue a 94 RGV ridden by Schwantz.
 
"Heritage and History" is great, except that that neat old Ferrari 250GT SWB can be blown off by a Mazda Miata on a road course. Same goes for classic vintage bikes. And I've ridden and owned a bunch. Most of them are cranky and unpleasant and NOT rider friendly. Narrow power bands and lousy brakes, awful suspension and tires. I have a LOT of respect for those who raced them. I keep one vintage machine around just to remind myself of how it was.
