The Doctor Told Me I Had A Deterioating disc in my back, would you please tell me what does this mean for me, I am On light duty on my job , I have to do a lot of heavy lifting and pulling, I would like to know what could happen if when the doctor release me and I continue to do my job. Is it a good idea for me to continue my job ? What should I do Please help? I hurt my back on my job.

I think that means that you have Degenerative Disc Disease in that disc. It is my understanding that the disc will not heal on it's own, and surgery will eventually be inevitable if it causes you a lot of problems because the disc will continue to deteriorate. Have you tried steroid injections to control the pain? Have you tried PT?

personally, I would get a different job, but from what I understand DDD happens to everyone at some point it's just a matter of whether the pain is unbearable or not. With heavy lifting you are making sure that disc is going to wear out faster, but it really is all about time. PT is wonderful at helping teach new ways of moving and stretching without hurting if that is not a possibility, I would say do a lot of walking, no smoking, and try like heck to take it easy.

As people age everyone gets degenerative discs to some degree. What matters is what the test results show and if it correlates with what your symptoms are. In the long term you'll want to see a job that doesn't involve a lot of back movement (less bending, standing, twisting, etc),
