Detachable Kit for Ultra or Classic tourpak

I was wondering how many people have done the detachable kit and if you remove the tourpak often. I've been thinking about doing it, I love the way the bike looks with it off(I have a 2009 Electra Glide Classic) but not sure how often I would ride without it, this makes spending the $500 plus for the kit hard to justify. I do have the power outlet in the pac so I would have to make this quick disconnect too, but I am not worried about that.

Any advice from people that have done it would be greatly appreciated.

I had a 07 RK with a tour pak and quick detach,,I took it off when a was solo and on for 2-up,,worked out great,,I now have a 09 ultra classic,,I was thinking about doing the same thing,,,but all the wires and antennas just seemed like a hassel,,,I now like having the tour pak with me,,lock my helmet in there,,if I buy something I have a place to put it,,,it accually comes in handy,,so I think I'll scrap the idea,,but that's just me,,,

I am thinking the same thing, I love having it when I go places, plenty of storage. However I am single, and my left saddle bag is full however my right one is normally empty, so I would have room to put stuff in to go riding. I am just stuck at a crossroads because I really like the look of the bike without the tourpak but love the storage it provides. Was just trying to see the people that have done the kit on Ultra's or Classic's and how often they leave it on or off.

My old man has a 09 RKC with the detachable tourpak and only uses it when my mom rides with him or he needs the storage.

I did it with my 04 egc and loved taking the trunk off. I just got a new 2011 and the price of the detach kits have sky rocketed since I did mine in 04.

When I first bought my '05 EGC, I hated the Tour-Pak and wanted it off because to me (at that time), if you had it on and you're riding solo, it looked as though you're riding around looking for someone.

As time went on, I found that I took it off less and less but then again, my step son was usually riding with me.

The '09 just picked up has the detachable Tour-Pak already on it. I'm sure I'll utilize it.

I ride solo all the time, and only need the tour pak a couple times in a riding season.I didn't buy the Quick detatch kit.I don't like the look of the QD tabs on the fender struts when the pak is off.It only takes 20 minutes max to remove the tour pak and install the RK strut covers.I've already permanently mounted the tag below the tail light.

Had it on my 09 EGC. I wanted the bike to look cool when riding solo. Even went as far as a solo seat. Bike looked great, lowered rear shocks lp below led tail light etc... Put the tourpack back on every weekend so the wife could ride with me or on trips. The more I did it, the more I hated it. finally just left the trunk on there 95% of the time. Got to were I actually used the trunk more then the side bags because it is just easier to get into. Just kept rain gear or heavier stuff in the bags. Traded bike in on my RGU and am not doing a removable tour pack.

I love the ability to transform the look from Ultra light, I have an 09 street w/chopped tourpak, to lean... nothin on the back in about a minute. Also have a short backrest for short rides...wouldnt trade the flexibility for nothin..Im like you..if theres not a passenger, theres no need for the box. Look in my profile and you will see how I store it as well.

Mine is a '03, I bought it used with the QD Tour Pak already on it, wouldn't have another without it, I have also added Kuryakyn's slide mount on top of that for more breathing room for the both of us when the wife is on.

I did the detachable set-up on my 2000 FLHT. I can go with three different looks, solo, backrest only or tour pak for the long rides. If you relocate the antennia to the left side of the bike then change over that 2 minutes.
