Destroy the Rebirth - "Gundam 00" Season 2 on SyFy's Ani-Monday Talkback

Yes Louise, Kill the only man who has ever truly loved you..thats rightm Just like that.

OH wait, she's having flasrabroadacks...could she be...Fighting Ribbons Control!!!???

& she passes out! Guess it was jsut to much of a mental strain for her.

Yeah, Nena reaped what she sowed. And I can only scoff at her declaration to Louise that she's fighting to avenge family too. It either never occured to her that she was Louise's Ali, or she's so self-centered that she didn't care.

None of that changes that the revenge was ultimately empty, though...that was what I took away from Louise's breakdown.

Holy mackerel, talk about Armageddon! The destruction from the pillar is more spectacular that I expected!

Wait, if they're in Africa, were all the Africans?

Fllay Voice!

Wow, the world unites!

Alright, so I caught the first four episodes of this season...then I missed every single one up until last night! Awesome...well, not really.

I keep forgetting how cinematic this season has been. It's stunning really, although to be honest I can't see how the hell this Louise storyline has dragged on this long. I swear t' God, if Saji and Louise don't have a happy ending I'm killing someone.

Also, that Ribbons bloke neeRAB t' be shanked.

Andrei blames his father for letting his mom die because he followed orders yet isn't that what he just did. He's hiding behind that excuse of it was my duty junk. He knew he wasn't aware of his side of the stroy but just wanted an excuse to commit his revenge. I know he wasn't making his mom happy.

I really love Kenji Kawai's music for the 2nd season. There's so much menace in the BGM in comparison to the 1st season. A lot more guitar too (maybe he realized that people in general loved COUNTERATTACK?) and the Middle Eastern theme he's been using gets shoved to the forefront. The Celestial Being theme he used a lot in season 1 has also vanished. The only theme from season 1 used in either of these two episodes was Setsuna's theme briefly playing in episode 27. The BGM is fresh, big-budget, and powerful. Also reminRAB me of The Sky Crawler's BGM a bit, though maybe it is because he worked on that movie and this Gundam 00 season at the same time.

I also adore the animation. They clearly got a budget increase, especially with the first episode which is very close to being movie-quality. Sunrise is not penny-pinching when it comes to the animation. Everything is just so gorgeous. The occasionally awkward English text in season 1 has also been rectified, which means they got the English writers from Code Geass to stick around for this season.

The Automatons are terrifying things. They move mercilessly and thoroughly, massacring everything and everybody without a care in the world. Very Ghost In The Shell-like in general. It is amazing that something else robotic got introduced along with new Gundams and Haros in this show. The Automatons help separate this series from the other bazillion Gundam shows out there.

The dub remains professional but it doesn't have a whole lot of personality. It's okay but does not stand out overall and it definitely pales in comparison to the typical FUNimation dub. Still, every voice generally fits well (though the new Haro is going to drive me insane, but that's true of most Haros in general).

I am a bit frustrated that the epilogues are being cut out completely, but I can understand Sci-fi's rationale because that removes a whole chunk of episode all at once without cutting much from the main part of the episode (though they still did remove a scene here and there). Still, there is some important stuff getting yanked out. I don't think it's enough for the new viewer to be confused, at least, not yet, but Sci-fi should analyse those scenes more closely before they cut them.

This is a very good start to the season overall. Everything is just GOOD.
