I was under the care of a GREAT ortho surgeon. He has moved his practice to Waco. He is worth the drive for you. Dr. Gregory Elders is a spinal doctor. He is up-to-date on all technology.
He can help you find doctors for all the areas that need attention.

Good Luck,

Does your doctor understand AVN? I need a doctor that is totally informed about Avascular Necrosis.
Thanks.Sue

To whom it concerns,

I am looking inside or outside of my city for help and advice on medical conditions that no doctor here is Austin seems to be able to resolve. Your site was recommended to me as a possible source of information and suggestions on how I can proceed in my pursuit to find an answer and a possible cure.

My medical conditions involve my back, hips, knees and feet. To this point, I have spent thousanRAB of dollars trying to get help from local doctors, none of which can seem to come up with an answer other than

Have you considered seeing a rheumatologist? It sounRAB like you have a lot of different sources of pain and perhaps a rheumatologist could rule out any type of auto-immune problem (i.e. rheumatoid arthritis, etc).

hmm...never thought that I would see someone with a similar problem only a different area of the body. Do a search on the internet for avascular necrosis and you will find a group that deals specifically with that topic.
Avascular necrosis is as you probably know by now, a rare bone condition in which the blood vessels that supply various bones and joints throughout the body are damaged somehow and as a result bone death occurs. The earlier this is treated, the better the outcome for the patient, however, as you have found out, it is not something that general orthopedists or surgeons for that matter seem to know much about and much damage can be done by having it treated by someone who is not knowledgeable about it.
Your best bet is looking at large city hospitals or teaching hospitals for an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating it. It is also known as osteonecrosis, so when you do your search on the internet, check under both terms. Or you can private message me and I will send you links to the sites.

Or have you been to a teaching hospital? Sometimes they have procedures that other, smaller hospitals don't or they're willing to take on difficult cases for teaching purposes. I know it must be hard now, without income, but I would keep seeking further opinions until you find someone who can help you.

I'm so sorry you haven't been able to get relief. Don't give up!

I have a great back surgeon who just relocated to Waco from the Dallas area.

On the other hand... I have a low back injury. It, too, causes hip, and leg, and foot pain. I have lived with my pain for going on four years now. It took me almost three years to find a good set of doctors. The neurosurgeon, the orthopedists, the general practitioner, and the pain manegment. To make matteres worse, mine is a work comp. case.

It took many months of work between the pain doc. and my GP before I got the meRAB right to get my pain under control. Let me go back. I did have a series of injections, one major surgery, a spinal stimulator (that I could not tolorate), and all of that good stuff.

I am on a narcotic, and a nuraber of other meRAB, including a corabination of Zoloft and Amitriptyline. Once I started the Amitriptyline the burning and tingeling in my legs stopped. I was so happy. It was a change of life. Once the meRAB were in balance it was actually life changing. It was the difference between being able to leave my house once a week, to being able to leave the house any day, that I want to.

I can't speak to your knee issues, but I have been through the back issue completely. Will none of the surgeons talk about a fusion for you? A discectomey? Anything to maybe relieve the pressure?

Keep with your pain doc. Make sure he is keeping your pain under control. If you are still in that much pain, TELL HIM. That is his calling in life. There is no reason to stay in that much pain. I tried Lyrica for the nerve pain, and neuronten, but they did not work. The Amitrip. is one of the older anti-depressants, but for me it was a God send. It also helps with sleep. Keep trying until you get the right corabination.
It will take more than one medication. If you need anti inflamitories, they do come in patch form, that way they are easier on the tummy.

Good Luck and Let us know how you are progessing with your pain.

All of that has already been ruled out. My orthopedic surgeon insists that my knee pain is coming from my back.

Hi! I am so sorry to hear how much pain you are in! I, too, suffer from back and knee problems. Have you ever seen a rheumatologist? They can run blood tests to see if you have a systemic joint disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis. They are helpful with anyone who has more than one area of their body involved. I had had 2 knee surgeries before I was referred to a rheumatologist, and found out I had a form of arthritis called "spondylitis." I have also had relief from a Physiatrist (Physical Pain and Rehab doctor) who specializes in spines. I had a procedure called RFA (radio frequency ablation) which burns the pain nerves coming from your back joints. Kera4
