Desmosedici wreck at Jennings GP

So in the end some tech will be blamed for not noticing the bad tires before it was given to Cook to ride?

I just searched Cook Neilson on Wikipedia, it says former motorcycle magazine jounralist who is famous for winning Daytona in 1977 and for crashing a one of 1500 Desmosedici's on Sept 15th 2008. Ain't fame a bitch.

Ummm, am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous? I mean, isn't that what tires are for? Who would expect them to conserve rubber at a track day, especially during a bike comparison? I wouldn't. Why didn't they just mount a new set? It's not like they don't have the money.

The tires for the desmo are 16.5" Bridgestones and rare as hens teeth. In fact a private owner was there with his desmo and a spare set, Elliot Cho with DNA did his best to buy them from him but he wouldn't budge. "Blamed" is probably to harsh of a word, the fact is that after the comparo everyone knew the tires were shot including Neilson. Actually Lary Pegram was out before Neilson and pretty much finished them off, I was standing there when he came back in and stated the tires were "shagged".

Again, these tires are RR specific and not readily available.

From Motorcycle Specs

"With the aim of producing the ultimate track performance, Ducati and Bridgestone have developed special tyres for the Desmosedici RR. The tread pattern, construction and profile are being specially developed and produced by the Japanese tyre manufacturer."

I was down in Ocala at the Duc dealer on Sunday doing demo rides on the Hypers. Sebastian, the owner, was the one that organized the track day at Jennings that this happened at. He was telling me that the rider broke his leg and the bike has roughly $35k of damage. You gotta remember that the body work is all CF...

Amen to this post JD! Especially point C)! I track with a crew of 7 guys, some advanced some intermediate. We've ALL gone down at least once or twice....just comes along with the territory.

Here here. The main thing is like all, I hope the geezer gets it all back together; the bike, the rider and the owner's sanity. And his bank balance.

Otherwise, JohnnyDuc sums it all up for me. If it weren't for the money, a bikes a bike sa bike; ride it, enjoy it, clean it, crash it, repair it, ride it, en.................etc.

I change one set of tires EVERY TRACK DAY; one set of tires on a desmosedici cannot last more than one track day, unless you drive that beast like an SV650 or something like that; do i give the idea? Sometimes i have to change a set in the middle of the day on tracks like Summit Point or VIR North: very technical and curvy tracks. This weekend however at roebling road, GA I predict one entire day out of my tires. the track is very fast and very little braking will be going on at Roebling Road.
