I read all these references to feminists... and well, what do you think a feminist is exactly? My version... a feminist is someone who wants to be thought of as a person, not a sex object, not property but a person who feels, thinks and breaths like any man... has just as good a mind and is capable of doing just about anything a man can do disregarding physical strength but women give birth so we are even.Winter glory: obviously this is an issue because there is so much anti-feminist posts.... its isnt all nice and warm.... so i am asking because i dont think many of these ignorant people know what a feminist is

Someone who believes men and women should have equal social status and opportunities..Everything else is trivial b.s. and I really don't care about it."who's stronger" who's more emotional""who brushes their teeth better'WHO CARES?!?!?

When I think of a feminist, I think of chicks in the 60s and 70s who fought for equality in a time when sexism was commonplace.Unfortunately, today's 'feminists' are really feminazis, who seem to be hellbent on making men miserable and subservient.EDIT: To Steven, maybe feminists where you come from aren't like that but where I every one I come in contact with, which is an unnatural amount, is really like that. The majority of them are just man-haters who discourage even the slightest display of femininity and often put me down for shaving my legs, which I really do more for me, and then rant about how men are the scum of the earth. Feminism is supposed to be equality. The really vocal 'feminists' nowadays tend to be like I said, feminazis and it's a very sad reality.

They are people who fight for equal something. But I don't know what thing.

A feminist is just any person who believes in gender equality, just the same way that many people believe in race equality. The term feminism has been misunderstood. To those who don't know it's definition, they think it means feelings of superiority over the other gender. Although some women are superior in some ways to men, and vice-versa. Blacks didn't need a term to describe their desire to be counted equally. This is another reason that some people are suspicious about the need for women to need a term to describe theirs.I really don't think we need one. Everyone who believes in gender equality, under the correct definition of "feminism" IS a feminist. It's just a normal human desire of self-respecting individuals.

One issue I have with modern feminist, is that they demand that people view them as they view themselves. This type of thinking is ridiculous. We have no control how other people will ultimate view us. All we can do, is live a life that demonstrates our values and hope that other people see and admire these values. This is why I find most modern feminist to be intolerant of other peoples opinions.

A woman confused by the world she encounters when someone lets her out of the kitchen

Well I know that feminism has done great things for women such as voting which many men joined the ranks of this effort, to education and working etc.. People need to understand who is behind the women's party now and that they are promoting the special and privileged interest of women over men and this is wrong. Please view my website at http://rebukingfeminism.blogspot.com/ if you would like a view from both sides. You will see how the 76 cents to a dollar statement is misleading as well as what has now become 1 in 3 claim of women being raped is false. You will also understand that women hold the law in their hands and are able to place men in cages and this I believe has lead to attacks and violence against women. The Santa Clause murder for example. I have a posting on what drove this man to murder her.

Do the wide variety of definitions I have come across describe a spectrum, or do they reveal the lessening of the value of the word "feminist" in that it's meaning can not be agreed upon? At any rate, the spectrum is too wide to be attractive to me.If you can have different "versions" of a feminist, why is it surprising that it is not taken seriously as an identity? If a person wants to be treated with respect, then how can this be defined based on gender? I mean, the point is to be respected, not that your female, right?LUX, I know what you mean by shaving your legs "for you". I know I do it for me because I didn't shave for years, you know, out of "principle," (not an invalid one or anything), but it always bugged me visually, and then one day this girl I knew who didn't shave hers either was looking down at her legs and she goes, "I look like I am wearing a pair of man's socks!" I laughed so hard.....because she was right. It was like where she had focused shaving, you know, the bottom part of the leg was growing so much more then the rest of her leg, anyway, it was hilarious. I realized what had bothered me was that it looked artificial. Maybe a woman's leg hair would grow like this if they never shaved, I don't know, never met a girl who never shaved, but it doesn't make sense that it would, ya know?

A feminist to me is no different than a civil rights activist. Lux I disagree with your views on today's feminist, I do not see them that way nor do I know of any of the so called radical feminist.I see feminism the same way I see the civil rights movement, women deserve equality just like black men deserve it.
