was it resolved.? Describe the most debated issue during the Constitutional Convention and how was it resolved.

Got this anwers so far... But not sure which one was the MOST debated :( any one has an imput in this?

One key topic was the issue of money, most delegates were still reeling from the inflation of the money printing to fund the revolutionary war. The hard money men won out with gold and silver coins as money.

And also, no authority for a central bank. Hence why Congress alone has the power to coin our money and regulate its value.

this was where George washington was elected president by unanimous decision... They were like Slavery YA or NAY ... and them fools were like well whos gonna do all the work if we dont got slaves... and then they were like... well its unchristian to have slaves and booya.... big debate...
 
the most debated issue was actually the office of the president

the articles of confederation prior to the constitution had no executive and many delegates were wary of having a strong executive simply because of the historical baggage--King George

so the debate was about
1. Either having a separate, independent election for the presidency or following the parliamentary system (that is the prime minister is chosen from the ruling coalition in parliament)

2. If a separate election, was the president to be popularly elected by the people or to be elected by state legislatures

3. the powers and term length of the president

the first problem was solved in september 1787 when the delegates agreed to have a separate, independent election of the president

the other two problems however were never solved in the full session of the convention

they were marked as controversial and left to be solved by the Committee on Postponed Matters

this committee resolved the second problem by devising the electoral college

the anti-federalists were wary of a strong executive and favored a president elected by the state legislatures

the federalists did not want a repeat of the inefficiencies of the articles of confederation and sought for a stronger federal government and president. they supported popular election of the president

the electoral college was a compromise. the electors would be distributed among the states according to population, and the states would be given the right to decide how to allocate them

this was because popular election of the president never gained much support then. but the electoral college left a way open for popular election, as long as the state legislature decides for it to be the method of allocating delegates

the scope of presidential powers were also resolved by the committee

for example, president would be commander in chief but only congress could declare war, president would negiotiate treaties but only congress could ratify them
