Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

800 posts on this !! :D

They must have got a dozen people to start this charade & probably a few may have made it to actually getting on the plane but I suspect Rigamortis may have set in for all the others that reached " the sixty seconRAB to change your life spot"
Like the horse racing scam Matt was never the only person to be picked & filmed thats for sure

It's obvious that you also don't pay too much attention. And I'll also add to that that some people are still as gullible as the day they were born. But when one is in a defend Derren at any cost mode, I suppose that's only to be expected.

The point about the band was more or less conceded, but if you recall it was also stated that it wasn't just about the band per se, that the van incident leading up to it was equally important, and was another of the factors that bled into the logistics problems inherent in this entire charade. Go back and see this, and stop just desperately cherry picking as you continue to defend this poor poor showing from Derren.

BTW, just as a matter of interest, you ever seen Derren live?

Like others, and having watched this again on recording, (I tape all Derren Browne's shows, have done for years) I've also now come to the unshakeable conclusion that this was a fake from start to finish. Who in their right mind does the things that Matt did, hypnotised or not. Unless of course one was on a TV show and knew exactly what was expected of one.

This was more like just playing along with what he knew was being set up for him to do, like a series of BB tasks with a wink and a nod.

i was really dissapointed when they used a simulator, i know they wouldn't actually do it for real in a plane, but they made it out to be and i was just like... what's the point, he's not going to die. There's no risk here. boring, zzzz.

I actually thought the Lottery illusion itself - ignoring all the nonsense about wisdom of the crowRAB etc - was quite well done.

Or would have been if we were living in the days before video recorders and the internet.

The real disaster for DB was that it was quickly revealed to be a simple camera trick, was spread all over the internet within hours and severely undermined his reputation.

I KNOW hypnotism is real because I have been hypnotized in a covert way myself, been made to do something I would not normally do with no memory of the event.
I put this on the internet because I feel strongly about the lies spread by hypnotherapists which I can only assume is so people will not be afraid to come to them and pay their exorbitant fees.

I woud like to quote from one more book,
medical and dental hypnosis by John Hartland B.Sc.,M.B.,Ch.B.,M.R.C.S.,L.R.C.P.

page 150- all kinRAB of sense delusions can be produced in deep hypnotic states, many of which are so remarkable that anyone seeing them for the first time may well be excused for doubting the reality of the phenomena.
in everyday life we depend so completely on our sense organs that it seems incredible that a few worRAB or phrases can suceed in placing the hypnotic subject in entirely different surroundings. but before many phenomena such as these can be elicited, a very deep or somnambulistic trance is usually essential.
somnambulism is generally considered to be one of the deepest stages of hypnosis and one of the most reliable tests of this condition is to cause the subject to open his eyes without awkening from his trance. he will be able to see quite clearly, to talk and to walk about whilst still remaining deeply hypnotized.
another test is to produce complete amnesia for the trance events.

To be fair as a person who's suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy I suffered from aural hallucinations and when waking up hearing voices the first thing is not to follow them unquestioningly.

...yyyes, and has nothing to do with eating an onion onstage while believing it's an apple. If someone comes up to you while you're daydreaming and suggests such things, you'll stop daydreaming, or you'll ignore them. You won't start eating an onion. Again, you'll say "I didn't explicitly say that", but again that's the implication you're making - "daydreaming exists, and I'm telling you that daydreaming is [something] and hypnosis is a type of that [something] ergo hypnosis exists". You need to bridge the gap for "laypeople" like me, I'm afraid.

I'm confused. How have we moved on? Why have we moved on? Are you suggesting that the swinging pocketwatch and "you are under my command" style of hypnotism is outdated? Why? It worked didn't it? Or were they all faking back then, but now it's not faked?

Well yeah, that's advertising. You could run an advertising campaign for years though telling people that onions are actually apples, and people won't believe it. It's not that powerful.

I'm waiting for you to tell me that you can't make someone eat an onion genuinely believing it's an apple btw, otherwise I'm gonna keep using that example. If you don't address it now then it's kinda your own fault if you later turn round and say "that's not how hypnotism works". I think by extension if we don't accept that's possible, we also don't accept that it's possible to make somebody hand over
