Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

But Derren had met Ben (casino) before during an audition process, and Matt (airplane) likewise, and in the latter case has since said there was much work done off-screen. Why would he fake it if it were possible? Why risk using an actor?

met? what does that mean? it does not mean he put him under hypnosis and implanted a hypnotic trigger.
apart the fact the rest of the stunt is set up, like having a spare 5 grand he can immediately get his hanRAB on and does not miss and standing by the brightly light window for the camera crew he does not know are there.
db getting in the casino wiith a camera up his sleeve unnoticed and counting the revolutions of the wheel and ball in opposite directions simultaneously.
ONCE HE HAS LOST CREDIBILTY YOU CANNOT BELIEVE ANYTHING ABOUT HIM.

Seriously people, even if this WAS real, what's the point in being "brave" enough ("FACE YOUR FEARS!!") to do something as stupid as lie on train tracks, stroke dangerous animals and attempt to fly a plane??? That's not helpful, that's uninhibited moron land.

I know I have said this in a previous thread but to all the people who think Derren doesn't use stooges, he does. My friend works at a theatre and when Derren played there they made them close the main tabs on stage so no on could see what he was rehearsing. My friend snuck back and peeked. Half the people he randomly chose later that night were all there back stage, part of his staff. I know this is just my word but I promise you it is true. I don't know if it is the case with this programme but it does make it more likely.

Who is involved in a hold up with a gun to their head and doesn't involve the police? especially as the owner of the store would have to call the police and of course they would need to talk to him too. If the owner was to say "I am not going to call the police" then that is highly suspicious plus most people would probably reply "you may not but I do".

I still don't know what to think of the room of smoke scene. Matt didn't just see the others ignoring the smoke, he saw the others not noticing the smoke yet still said nothing. The least he could have done is given a nudge or signal to another person and then see if they did anything if he really didnt want to. At least in the classic case of Genovese mentioned earlier the people who didn't help her all knew that everyone else knew what was happening too. Matt just decided to leave it knowing he was the only one who noticed, in a program about heroes that is pretty funny.

I missed the band bit as I was too busy in a conversation about how ridiculous the show was but another thing I don't believe is that he wouldn't clock the change in light outside between when he stood up to volunteer and the virtual nighttime in the sim. Derren's explanation in the Q&A that it wasn't as dark as it looked doesn't convince me at all. Even if it wasn't as dark as it looked, it was still a hell of alot darker. The light difference was massive, he got up to volunteer and it was light, walked to the cockpit and it was dark. I mean you are landing a plane, one of the most visual based things you can possibly do and the light issue goes unnoticed?

That was Brown's explanation as to how he got away with not paying the taxi or questioning how it was conveniently there for him. I can't see how the thought of breaking into the house made him forget to question who booked, when, for where and why the cabbie is even taking him. What makes me laugh is that even though he is willing to take this "pre paid ride" without question, when he gets to his destination he asked the cabbie to "wait here please" like he wants more "freeness" and the cabbie is like "no problem". It's just odd.

That was his explanation about why Matt thought it was acceptable to enter the policemans home. That's answer seems almost deliberately lazy, like he doesn't mind if people rumble the show. Plus the right thing to do was post them through the letterbox with a little note if he wanted.

The Q&A didn't convince me at all to believe what Brown said happened. So many times I watched Matt's reaction to what was happening around him and I thought "bulls**t". The fact that Matt doesn't question anything around him when even the most unaware and unobservant person in the world would have alarm bells ringing is what makes me so unbelieving and I reckon for alot of people as well.

I agree with what others in this thread have said about how stealing, breaking and entering, touching crocodiles, not reporting an armed robbery to the police (as obviously happened) and unquestionably volunteering to save a plane when you have no experience whatsoever and the responsible thing would be to ask if noone else is a better candidate or at least ask for help, make you a better person?

Give that man a coconut!

What a let down.

45 minutes of patter and a bit of fluff at the end covering up a fairly mundane conjuring trick.

He's really gone down hill since the lottery fiasco.

It was on one of his tours. I don't have any links to information about it, but I'm sure it can't be hard to find out about it. Many people saw it live.

Are you seriously suggesting it was just a coincidence that in all of Derren's live shows he randomly opened a slip of paper that contained the word "cock" written by some young laRAB?

You seem to be saying that all facts are equally likely to be true, regardless of their context, or evidence to the contrary?

The chances of there being a monster in Loch Ness are considerably low given the amount of investigation it's received, and the fact that such a large species living in a lake would almost certainly have been discovered by now.

However, the chances of something being true that several people report on the Internet that they saw in a stage show

Well one of us is misremembering then (that's not meant as a dig but as a genuine comment - it may well be me who is misremembering). Having seen the show twice, my recollection is the same as yours up to the conversation part i.e I remember him saying 'who wrote that' with faux indignation whilst peering from the light of the stage into the dark of the hall and as if unable to 'see' anyone, then dropping the paper at his feet and choosing the next evelope.Heck, I think there might even have been the classic 'hand shielding the eyes' as he peered into the dark but I wouldn't swear to that. No converstaion with any ashamed boys that I recall. But as I say,it may be me who is misremembering but I know which I think to be the likelier option overall.

Precisely. GD is thinking exactly what DB wanted you to think.

Of course, this is all just my opinion. But it all makes absolute sense to me. There's no part that doesn't.

Think of it this way;

I was a HUGE Derren Brown fan, back when hardly anyone had heard of him.

So it isn't that surprising when I continue to watch, hoping he will do some of the intelligent stuff he used to do.

I mean, I've found his last two shows awful, which staggered me really because he used to be so great (in my opinion), so I didn't give up on him so easily.

I think a lot of his fans are like that. We'll give him a chance, but don't be surprised when we do watch and point out how disapointing he is becoming.
