I've seen his latest show as well. All the people taking part were selected by frisbee throws including ones involving just one person. Also do people really thing that if he used 20 different actors for 50+ shows a year (around 1000 actors) not one of them would have come out and said they were in on the trick?

It was good entertainment not my faveshow of Derrens to be sure,I will re-watch as it didnt grab my attention so I didnt concentrate as much.
It's ad that people call fake/actors/stooge etc etc. just because there was no big reveal or payoff. It is what it is. Good TV and caused many discussions.
For the ref I do believe Derren when he says no actors and that includes the family. Because what would be the point in doing that?!

the reason it is difficult to find documented cases is because if the subject had post hypnotic amnesia which is very likely with a somnambulistic trance then as they were not aware what happened they would obviously not complain because they would have nothing to complain about.

I don't suppose you have been, so I will try to explain what its like. the very small part I remember is like a dream, in fact until I discovered what had happened I thought it was..
the reason it seems like a dream is because you are under the influence of the unconscious mind. now the word somnambulism has two meanings- the original from greek somn meaning sleep, and ambulare meaning walk, a person who walks and carries out activities in their sleep. because of the similarity to a person in a deep trance it took on that meaning also. but the diference is, when a person is put in a trance by another person then the operators suggestions become that persons inner voice and as its below the level of the conscious mind generally become accepted as the unconscious cannot reason in the same way. this is how stage hypnotists make subjects perform amusing acts. although there is some subconscious resistance, depending on the command and the subjects own personal beliefs.if the suggestion strongly violates the sujects moral code then he will very likely snap out of the trance, as their is some subconscious resistance, or, 'wake up' to put it another way, although, hypnosis is not sleep.this has happened to me. now, the subject will have no memory of what he was doing previously to the suggestion which made him snap out of the trance.
now, to return to the telegraph article, this woman 'woke up' and realised some of her clothing had been removed and the hypnotherapist was touching her, so it would not take her very long to realize he was trying to have sex with her, but she would have no memory of the events up to that point.
now if the hypnotherapist had not pushed his luck that far she could have been made to get dressed and put back to an innocent situation before being taken out of the trance by the hypnotherapist and she still could have been sexually assaulted and have no memory of it. or, if he had handled it differently had full sex with her. what about if he convinced her she was in love with him, for example.

Right, but we all know that it's a trick and we're fine with that.
Are you saying that we should be fine with the idea that tonights show was all done, quite obviously, using actors (including Matt) because that's what magicians do, they lie?

Of course! An assistant stuRAB them in his pocket in full view of audience and Derren remembers 3 or 4 bits of information for numeorus people within a 15 minute interval! Plus its on Google so it must be true!

I think the vast majority of conflicting opinions confuse things a bit.
If by fake people are suggesting that Matt was an actor then I would have to respectfully disagree.
If by fake people are saying that Matt didn't act as he did because of hypnosis and suggestion from Derren then I'd have to agree with them

Derren Brown has one aim and one aim only, and that is to get people to ask "How did he do that?"
As this thread has proved, even with a show that many found disappointing, he has managed to succeed in his aim magnificently.
It wouldn't surprise me if he deliberately edits his shows in such a way as to 'entice' the doubters i.e. he purposely adding moments, leaving out certain explanatory facts, so that skeptics and pick up on them, to prolong the debate.
As with all DB threaRAB, there are too many 'facepalm' comments to deal with from people who assume that the entire excercise is 'fake' from start to finish. What's for sure is that we have spent 54 pages (and counting) discussing the show, and for that reason alone, he has succeeded.
