Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

Mnnn. I have just given up at the point where he's sent into the garden in a "dream". I'll go do something else then pop back for the finale.

SounRAB exactly like I said -- an episode of The Simpsons.

And Lost is a drama, y'know where suspension of one's disbelief of a prerequisite, or didn't you know that?

Whereas with most Derren Browne shows, it's the opposite effect he's normally aiming for i.e. invoking a sense of incredulous disbelief and awe in his audience, although not much chance of that in this latest offering.

If he's gonna spend his time making shit like this, you'd think he'd at least attempt to make it believable. As if you would just let yourself into some random house...

If you don't like it, don't watch it instead of moaning like a bunch of old women. It's 11 oclock at night. If your gonna watch the tv then go watch it. Stop sitting hunched over at desk all night. Pfft.

When he went to speak with his Mum about the idea for a party, and spoke his neighbours, we could hear every word he said. He was wearing a mic. At that point I questioned how much this guy really knew about what was going on around him.

I was buying in to it up until the street party. Like you'd just think 'oh wow, some guy has just left a van full of party gear so lets use it!' No you'd be probably calling the "******" boss and saying "err yeah pal, one of your guys has just quit his job and you've got a van full of stuff here".

Dreadful!!

Well I thought that was the best and least faked thing he has ever done. That lottery thing was obviously rubbish but I believe this was totally real. There's no reason why it shouldn't have been.

The hypothesis that he deliberately failed with the casino stunt makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Derren has no motivation to deliberately fail. A success would have earnt him great accolade. Failure harms his reputation and is not consistent with Derren

open to suggestion page 93-
one of the most bizarre hypnosis experiments ever carried out in the history of science was reported in an article published in1962 in what is generally considered the worlRAB leading hypnosis journal.
the article was by harold crasilneck and james hall, who are well known in the field as authors of a book often said to be the best in existence on the subject of the clinical uses of hypnosis, their celebrated clinical hypnosis: principals and applications.
in their article, 'The use of hypnosis with unconscious patients' crasilneck and hall reported how their attention to this subject was alerted when a 19 year old girl who had been given a simple hypnotic instruction continued to perform it even after she lapsed into unconsciousness in hospital. crasilneck and hall were treating ten patients with terminal cancer for pain control. part of the technique was a method of determining the depth of hypnosis reached by patients by instructing them to touch the thumb of the right hand with the little finger of the same hand until you are told to stop. these ten patients were treated over a period extending from one month to eleven months, and with an average of five months. all these patients eventually lapsed into unconsciousness prior to death and failed to respond to anything nurses said to them. they were pronounced officially unconscious by their doctors. however, crasilneck and hall decided to continue speaking to the unconscious patients, attempting to hypnotize them and suggesting freedom from pain. eight of the ten patients responded to the suggestion that they touch their thumbs and little fingers.
let us be clear as to what this means.
hypnosis was successfully induced, and hypnotic instructions carried out, by patients who were officially totally unconscious.
