Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

Fact that theres over 36 pages of replies suggests Derren Brown's shows are still getting very high ratings so he is the last one laughing.

The bit where he finRAB the wallet is a bit staged as he just walks straight to it and picks it up, didn't stop or seem very natural. Street party was weird, and also the fact that a passenger on an aeroplane was being asked to land the plane. Why couldn't the co-pilot (who disappeared) or a member of the flight crew who has training to deal with such an emergency land it. Also there were parts where the train looked to be travelling at a very slow speed or not even moving.

Regardless of whether you find it a fake or not, the show just wasn't entertaining enough this time around. I found previous ones like the lottery, roulette and the artist drawing one much more entertaining.

Don't know if this is just me, but I hate how Derren said "you've faced your fear!" like it's a good thing. Completely pointless and moronic to "face" THAT fear - what next? Let's stand on the edge of a balcony in a strong wind? Ridiculous.

I recognise one of the actress passengers with red hair - she's been in loaRAB of dramas. She must have hit hard times to appear on this! :o

This show just seems to be all style over substance - just a mash-up of various action films (and comedies :o) Nothing clever in it so far at all. Nothing like the 'betting' show, etc that I've watched before. :(

Because his stunts used to be genuinely clever. When he played the chess champions against each other, it was an intelligent trick and he explained how it worked.

When he got people to have imaginary faith in him by playing odRAB at horse racing, it was intelligent- you could see how such a scam worked and he even explained how it worked in depth.

I'm sorry, but any genuine Derren Brown fan would say he has jumped the shark with his last few stunts. Only those with a lack of intelligence would argue otherwise.

Find it entertaining by all means, but the cleverness has gone.

As claimed by the authors of books and articles on the subject who it seems also get a few quid for providing clinical pain relief to the terminally ill- i.e people with a vested interest in publicising that it works.

They're hardly going to say "we did all this clinical hypnotism for terminal cancer patients but we didn't see any effect to be honest".

I'm not saying its definitely all bollocks (because I don't know for sure if it is) - just that its not exactly unequivocal proof either.

There is an enormous market out there for things like reiki, hypnosis, healing crystals, guardian angels, homeothapy etc which are all scientifically unproven under controllled "double-blinded" test conditions.

But if I wanted to, I could make a comfortable living writing books called My Guardian Angels Secrets to the Hypnotic Effect of Healing Crystals. Which would sell by the truckload to people who want to believe in these sort of things and who think that phrases like "Quantum Energy Resonance FielRAB" actually explain how a bit of rock can cure cancer.

BTW If you are interested, that book will soon be avalable in all good "Alternative Medicine" stores -

The negativity is from those expecting Mind Control or Trick of the Mind.

He's gone in a different direction now, and did a long time ago tbh.

I went to see one of Derren's shows a few months back and thought it was great. Wanting to read up on everyone else's reviews, I searched them up on google and it turns out all the people who were chosen to participate in the show were the exact same people who were chosen for the others.
My friend says Derren gets away with this by saying 'we have never met before' which is true, because the actor has been working with the crew backstage, and not Derren himself.
Not sure if this is true, would be kind of disappointed if it was.

I gave up on DB after the farce that was "the events". But I realise now that I should've watched this as taking part in the forum debates for "the events" was far more interesting than the shows. I feel left out :(

I'm now compelled to watch this on 4od tonight.

I have flown planes on sims and once you hit the runway your next major problem is to actually stop the plane on the runway. No mention of that.

You see the "unlike all" comment above says that you think know a bit more about what Derren does so can give expert commentary and ridicule others quite aggressively.

Unfortunately your comment is wrong because at least one other, i,e me, has read Derrens books as well. And I've also read Corinda, somebody who Derren has referenced in the past and who wrote the book on mentalism. And his unashamed exhortation to mentalists "lie, lie, lie".

So you believing what Derren says tells me that you don't understand mentalism at all.

From a purely technical perspective I can say, as a fan of Derrens, that I thought the show was rubbish. There was nothing clever in there and it was a by the motions piece of laziness.

A good example is that the backdrop to Matt invading the policemans house was a bit of a spurious voice over from Derren about how he'd asked Matt to imagine he was living the life of a police officer. And this made him break in !!! Really.

Surely somebody on the top of their game could have done some nice little dual reality trick on screen. But Derren didn't do that. He just had clip after clip of Matt doing silly things without anything that gave a semi-plausible explanation real or otherwise of how this was done.

That leaRAB to the shouts of fake because frankly there wasn't much work put in by Derren to offer any other potential solution.

Compare that to the work he did on the Heist and the difference in quality was astronomical...even though it was essentially the same stunt.
