Deployed!

lol? First off, it doesn't matter how scared of us they are, they don't fight hand to hand. Mortars and IED's aren't something you have to be a man about using. And no training can prepare you for when shit hits the fan. Even with IDF. If it's your first time experiencing it, even your second time you're most likely scared shitless. There are fucking bombs falling out of the sky and they could randomly kill you. Not something you can be prepared for by sitting in a class room...

Wear some ears and fingers on a necklace.

Make sure you hollow out and dry(important) the skull of any insurgent you meet.

Collect them, give them names.

It will give you something to do to pass the time. Good luck.

you'd be hard pressed to find hand to hand combat in this current war. Especially considering the fact that both sides usually come forth bearing a lot of fire power and the fact that most gun fights are ended pretty abruptly when the insurgents get masacred or they run away because they aren't trying to fight a head on war.
Secondly, as a Marine, the training that we receive when we are in a school or in boot camp is a 24/7 epic mind fuck of stress. A complete rollercoaster of emotion and thought processes that you can't get control of unless you just stop giving a shit about the things that stress you out and start training so that you can still function and get the job done under these circumstances. By doing so, when in the event that you get into a life/death situation, you're already used to that level of stress so you don't feel it and can function really well.

occassionally you'll find that guy who freezes because he gets caught up in some ass backwards complex wherein he may be afraid because he fears he his going to lose his family back home if he gets killed but he never realizes that if he does get killed that he won't have a family to miss because he'll be dead.

and lastly the time spent in the classroom is minescule compared to the time spent applying the knowledge in the field during training, when it comes to the Marines at least.

*sigh*

I'm a Marine and I was in Iraq two years ago. No amount of training prepared me for what I saw and experienced over there. And your theory on what the thought process is is wrong. I wasn't thinking "Oh, I'll never see my family again." I was thinking "fuck, I don't want to get shot or blown up." You can train all you want for it, but you know that it's all fake. When there are real bullets flying down range and real mortars flying at you it's completely different.

And you make it sound like boot camp was some incredible mind fuck. Not only has it gotten easier since it's gotten in(from the information I've gathered from my boots), but it wasn't even as bad when I went through as it was 10-15 years ago. Mothers of America and all that bullshit.

The whole initial training is different but I wouldn't say easier. It evolves and is much more efficient, they don't just beat you merciluosly anymore. so everything you do from day one right as soon as you step off the bus is basically mental terrorism. When you step back and look at the process what they basically do is take a perfectly functional person and turn them in to a sociopath. Yes a lot of the training you do doesn't mean much but the mental aspect is the real focus. Whenever I got/get shot at I don't get nervous or think oh fuck. It's something more like, "did this bitch just shoot at me(in that kind of WTF how dare you comedy tone)...(as the next round comes by)...this motherfucker! Then we just go kill bodies afterwards.

And from my experience those marines had never mentioned any other fear other than from what I had stated earlier.

Not to be a complete douche bag, but you've been in the fleet for what? 4-5 months? Where have you deployed to? Boot camp in October. 3 months. October-January? Then you have SoI after. If you're not infantry then you have MOS school after that. The way I see it you've had at most 4 months experience in the fleet, so when exactly have you been shot at? Prior to the Corps? Did you live in the ghetto? The marines I know don't care about their families when they're about to get hit by IDF, I know I didn't. I found that the only people I was concerned for was myself and my marines.

Looking at the quality of the pussy boot ass marines coming into the Corps now I'd have to say the DI's aren't doing their job very well anymore.

gowdamet you got me. I was really hoping you would say something completely ridiculous and then I was gunna post back like, "haha I'm lieing" but you ruined my taters so fuck.
I'm still in MOS school, rofl.

I stand by the mental terrorism statetment but everything else I've posted in this thread has been complete bullshit. It's really boring at this place and I was hoping to start some e-drama.

uhhh... My old friend sent to Iraq. I think it's better to think of the day that You will be back home again. And treat everything You do as Your steps to home.
