Hello

I went to the dentist about tooth problems and they were asking me general questions like do I smoke, drink etc.
Then he said
"I notice you have been diagnosed with anxiety"
Which is a fair enough question to ASK me (as it could cause teeth grinding etc) but why did he KNOW that?
Does he have access to my full health records? Why?

I don't see why it is any of his business and even if it is I still think they ought to ask, not have access to sensitive information, whether it is relevant or not.

(If it makes any difference the Dentist I saw was a free one, at a dental hospital so maybe it's because they are somehow connected to the actual medical hospital)

I'm pretty annoyed and want to know what the deal is
plus I am not amused since he started to ask questions like:
are you getting any treatment for it?
talking therapy?
are you on any medication?
why not, why not?
what plans do you have for a job/career? (WTF?)

None of that is any of his business, meds would have been covered by a simple 'are you on any meds' question. There were also a bunch of trainees watching which was fine with me since it was only about teeth, but out of order when it got to the point of an inpromptu doctors appointment, complete with disaprovingly 'so you have NO plans to do ANYTHING, not interested in ANYTHING *raised eyebrow*'

Yeah, thats what happens with depression & anxiety.

Honey, chill.....
it's only normal that he has access to your health records. here in UK the national health service is trying to do the best it can. mabye if he hadn't have found out you had been diagnosed with anxiety you woudn't have told him.
so it's all for the best - both health services work together to save the country from epidemics etc. he's just trying to help you.
although don't worry, i know exactly were you're ocming from, it can feel like a real invasion of you privacy if people know private details about you. you just gotta fight past them. the highest walls we have to climb are those inside our heads.

:)

Did he ask if you were taking any medication? If you told him anything you are tasking he would know what they had been prescribed for.

You must ask the dentist how he knew about your anxiety. Did you have to tell him who your GP was when you joined the practice? If so, there may be some kind of liaison going on between them over your health etc. I believe they should have asked for your permission to see your notes so you may be in a position to make a complaint.
