Democrats do not want to reach a deal?

Except that running deficits are situationally useful, and barring them entirely would hurt the economy even more during recessions like this.

This kind of black and white thinking reserables that of a child. The world isn't so simple as DEFICIT BAD DERP DERP DERP.

You are thinking like a child. Even if they were not up for reelection, somebody else would and would get their paychecks even so. Additionally, even if congress was disbanded the revenue from their paychecks would not make a dent in the deficit.

Most of the "situationally useful" need for running deficits have involved war. Those representatives who vote for running deficits to support a war should be committed enough to such a cause to lose their jobs. There are, after all, military servicemen and women who have much more to lose in such cases.

In recent history the "situations" have moved into the realm of domestic spending, i.e. the Pelosi/Reid/Obama Health Care plan which most of the nation opposed. If sitting politicians believe in such a cause so much that they were willing to lose their seat in Congress, then I would shake their hand as they made their way out the door.

...because it's so important for Washington to hold onto that power to keep spending money...so important to President Obama, in fact, that when this conversation started back in January he wanted to freeze the debt ceiling at HIS spending levels (an 84% increase...) and so important that he required there be an increase in "revenues" (aka TAXES.) Well, we know that our President is good at one thing...creating a crisis. Because a good crisis is a terrible thing to waste.
