No, but considering it was a "special election", the amount of money for advertising and getting "name recognition" isn't going to be as good for challengers. By and large, in the vast majority of special elections, that are vacated by a death, the populace will often stay with the party that was in power, then may change (or may not) parties during the normal election cycle.
I'm not making excuses, that's just how it normally works out.
