Looking into hooking my 3100 up with my Dell 2408, which I can see vid not being an issue, sound on the other hand seems to be, or I am missing the obvious. I was also looking into upgrading to an HD pvr for this, but would like to know if this would be possible before making the switch. Obviously the monitor has no speakers, and I have extra computer speakers w/sub lying around, but can I hook the 3100 reciever or a HD reciever with it. Thanks for any info..

If you are planning on using a Video Capture card you should have no problems at all.
You can use Composite or Coax from the 3100 to get Video & Audio into a PC.

Depends on the make/model of the computer speakers and what inputs they allow. Most times they need to be connected to a computer, in which case you'd have to connect the audio cables from the STB to the computer, however some allow a direct connection of the red/white analogue audio cables (often via a miniplug adapter) directly to the subwoofer or one of the speakers as an input.

Now we know you are NOT looking at connecting to the Computer and are only interested in going to the Monitor, it is a different question.
