Deleting e-mail from N73...

Is anyone else having trouble deleting e-mail from their N73?

No matter what I select, "Phone Only" or "Phone and Server", when I press "Ok", it closes Messaging, goes back to the Standby Screen or the Menu, and doesn't delete the e-mail even after I connect again.

At this point, I'm afraid to check my e-mail anymore for fear of getting more and more e-mail that I can't delete.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated,

Xeraux

If you mean it leaves the header there, that's an annoying thing with S60, my old phone did the same. It deletes the message but keeps the header. If you mean it crashes the messenging application, maybe you tried to delete too many at once and it ran out of memory, try a one at a time. Personally I check my email on gmail using the web browser, because I never liked the way S60 handles retrieving POP mail. I only use Messaging for SMS and to send email.

You can now change whether or not you want the phone to delete only the headers or both header and server. It's deep in the messaging settings, but it's there. I doubt the N73 has a low memory issue with this, even if it is 3rd Edition. I've had no problems with my other 3rd Edition phones, I'd be disappointed to see that.

I'm familiar with this. Yep. It's annoying as hell.

Yes, this is what I mean. I was only deleting three messages at the time (that's all I downloaded). However, it does it even when you're deleting a single e-mail. When you press "Ok" in response to the question "Phone only or Phone and Server", the messaging application crashes, and kicks you out to the Standby Screen or the Menu. It's probably a firmware issue. I was just hoping someone else might be having a problem with it too.

Did you try setting the delete function to Phone and Server? I have a funny feeling that it may not close the messaging application anymore if you can skip that window where it asks you that question.

If it's the same as my E70, in messaging, it'll be Settings>Email>(your mailbox)>User Settings>Delete e-mails from>Always Ask, Phone (headers remain), or Phone and Server.

I have the same problem using IMAP - but only when the email is not downloaded.

That means:
if you have not only the header but the complete email on the phone you can delete it.

quick question...how do you setup the email on the n73....i know they have a little walk through and stuff but i get hung up when it asks for outgoing and incoming ip. Also would my comm. coll. be imap

I don't have this problem, now that I have an N73. What email servers are you guys using? I've deleted up to 20 emails from the server all at once with no problems.

I have the exact same problem. Open e-mail, download the newest emails, try to delete the ones I don't want to save and, crash (!), I get kicked out of the email-app and straight to the stand-by screen. I guess since alot of people have this problem, it must be a bug and will hopefully be fixed when the lates firmware is released

What I have found is that it only crashes if deleting email that are not retrieved.

My temporary solution is to Retrieve e-mail -> All (download entire messages but not opened), then delete from Phone and server.

I found that if I set up the e-mail such that messages are still left on the server, then it doesn't seem be be able to delete from the phone. When I got home and removed the messages from the server via my home PC, then the next time my phone connected to the mailbox, all of the old messages were wiped away. It's almost like it synchronizes with the server. If it sees the messages are still there then they don't leave your phone. If the N73 doesn't see the messages on the server and you've marked them for delete on your phone, then they get removed from your phone when the phone connects to the mailbox.

I've only had the N73 for a few days but this is what I have observed so far. I too was panicked that I couldn't remove the messages, but now all is well. It's a strange way to do it, but once you understand what is happenning, you just have to get used to it.

I believe this behavior is normal. While the phone keeps the header when you delete it from the phone only, notice the message is not retrieved. If you try to open it, you will have to retrieve it again. This is good if your goal is to save space, but if you want to disregard the message entirely until you can deal with it on a PC or otherwise, then I can see how it'd be a pain.
